Bread, Love And Dreams : Bread, Love And Dreams 1W / 1W 1st Stereo Press 1969
This very collectable first pressing is stunning! Having played every track in full (some twice!) I can confirm the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is practically 'as new' and that is no exaggeration. For such a quiet album there is remarkably no underlying static and the only intrusion is a handful of very quiet ticks on 'Lady Of The Night' on S1 which are not intrusive anyway. This is without doubt the most 'complete' version of this classic debut album I have ever listened to and I cannot overstate just how pristine the audio is. I could do with audio clips on my listings but I like to think my feedback speaks for itself. The vinyl is in lovely condition and has clearly only been played a handful of times at most. Not only that but it has been so well preserved resulting in the STUNNING audio on offer here.
The cover is in great condition and whilst I have graded it as Ex it is not far off Ex+ to be honest. It has only minimal wear and the original inner sleeve (dated 8 - 69) is in excellent shape also.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only find a very small number of ultra small faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out. There is no groove or surface wear and you can easily read the matrix info and the JT tax code on each of the run outs. The Decca labels are close to perfect with no marking and barely any spindle wear.
Play Grading
The run in on S1 is so clean and then the acoustic intro on 'Switch Out The Sun' plays with exceptional clarity. The opening vocal section is on the same level with not so much as a dust tick and already it is obvious this vinyl has hardly been played! It continues in the same precise way and what is so noticeable is how clean and succinct the audio is, the sound really jumps out of the speakers. I can't get over the clarity of sound here, it is STUNNING! Every note, every vocal and instrumental play 'as new' and the strings towards the end are breathtaking! Again the clarity and warmth of the audio is equal to a record pressed in the last couple of weeks, not 57 years ago! This is Mint in every single way.
'Virgin Kiss' keeps up this fine standard and plays with stunning clarity and definition throughout. The backing vocal of Rew and Davis add a melodic touch to the track and again there is nothing to detract from the audio. Even the fade out plays to perfection. Easily another Mint track.
The intro on 'The Least Said' has no background and the opening vocal is equally as clean. This high end standard is maintained as it progresses - it's quite a 'busy' track and yet there is 'fighting for space' here, every note can easily be heard. The depth and warmth on the audio is quite simply outstanding. Clarity 10/10 also - the strings at the end again are so loud and precise - I cannot emphasise just how immaculate the audio is! To continue a theme this track is... Mint
'Falling Over Backwards' plays with stunning precision. The female backing kind of adds an ethereal sound to the track and it plays in spectacular fashion. So far on this classic album there has literally been no background! This is a long track and yet it plays with perfect clarity and definition from the first note to the last. Mint
'Lady Of The Night' is the first track with any kind of background but it is so so minimal. The intro is 'as new' and the opening vocal section is more or less perfect with just one barely audible static. It then plays with impeccable clarity - there are two very quiet static ticks near the middle and a handful of quiet dull ticks near the end but what is impressive on this delicate track is the total lack of any background static. I think Near Mint- is fair.
'Main Street' ends S1 with genuine quality. The first upbeat number on the album but sonically it does suffer despite being the final track on the side. Once again the clarity and definition is superb - the brief pause towards the end is 100% silent and the fade out has no background. Mint is again deserved.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The very quiet bass intro on 'Artificial Light (Of All The Living Lies)' plays perfectly and the organ section is just as clean. The opening vocal plays with imperious quality and it proceeds in exactly the same way. This is another track that impresses on every level i.e. there is no intrusion whatsoever. It's the only cover on the album and I cannot fault this version, it is Mint from start to finish.
It doesn't get much quieter than the acoustic intro on 'Until She Needs You' and it plays with incredible clarity. The opening vocal is just as impressive and the only 'intrusion' is one light tick near the halfway mark. The mid instrumental / 'hmmm' vocal is flawless and to the end it plays with great precision and warmth. It's such a gentle track, a strong melody and Mint- is very much deserved.
The madrigal like vocal intro on 'Mirrors' is stunning - you can see why their albums are so collectable as their voices combine so well. This is a vocally driven track with a lot of verses! Lyrically so strong and every verse plays with sublime clarity. Seriously I am running out of superlatives now, I cannot believe the clarity on offer here and it plays 'as new' and that is no exaggeration. I grade with 100% honesty and even if there is a minor static I will mention it. This truly is audio of the highest calibre and it has to grade as Mint
The gentle 'Poet's Song' plays with wonderful clarity and warmth. Again. A handful of barely audible statics - in essence so so quiet you hardly notice them. Mint-
'The Yellow-Bellied Redback' plays with infinite precision all the way through. How did they come with the lyrical ideas?! The audio is pristine and even the 'birdsong' ? imitation at the end is flawless. Mint
'95 Octane Gravy' ends the album with supreme audio. Another up-tempo number and it plays with very clean audio and with no sign of any intrusion. If there is any inner groove distortion it is so minimal and totally non-intrusive. There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and Mint- is again a deserved grade. A long fade out with no background again.
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with minimal shelf wear. The edges are perfect and the spine is close to that with only a couple of tiny crease 'marks'. The corners are extremely clean, the only wear really is one small rub in the bottom left corner. The opening edge has hardly any handling wear and the laminated front cover just has some laminate lift as is common running down next to the spine and a handful of small edge creases next to the spine also. The back cover is in great order when you consider it is not laminated. It has no marking as such - just a little ringwear near the top and some faint surface rub near the bottom edge. The original 37/8 price sticker can be seen just below the mono / stereo indicator hole which incidentally is in superb condition. A fine example overall.
The original poly-lined Stereo inner (dated 8 - 69) is in excellent shape with no side splits or tears. There is only a little creasing and some of the usual glue residue showing through around the edges.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
