OPN's unique dreamlike surreal sound world emerges. The inspiration for Tranquilizer a tranquilizer-like drug began with a chance encounter. Oneohtrix Point Never (hereafter OPN) a quietly yet overwhelmingly influential band in the contemporary music scene has released their album Tranquilizer on Warp. OPN's unique dreamlike surreal sound world emerges. The inspiration for Tranquilizer a tranquilizer-like drug began with a chance encounter. Lying in a dentist's chair feeling the vibrations reverberating through his teeth he glanced up at a fluorescent light cover. A print of a blue sky and palm trees plastered on the gray tile ceiling—a cheap artificial paradise. At that moment OPN asked himself: What is the sound of this world What is the sound of this thin reality where the ordinary and the extraordinary coexist in a barely balanced way Furthermore the impetus for the creation of Tranquilizer came from the incident a few years ago when a huge sample library suddenly disappeared from the Internet Archive. Hundreds of classic sample CDs from the '90s and 2000s—sequences beats pads virtual instruments. These sound sources which informed countless works from Silent Hill to The X-Files were suddenly consumed by darkness. It felt like a cultural rupture a cruel severing of the memory of an era. Fortunately these lost fragments were salvaged and brought back to life as cultural archives. This album explores what it means to escape into the past and what lies beyond enveloping the listener in surreal deep textures. Drawing from these lost fragments Tranquilizer creates a sonic hallucination. Serene ambiences twist into digital chaos and everyday textures are transformed into a torrent of emotion. A record shaped by oblivion and decay. The boundaries between reality and unreality blur samples melt into noise and doors creak in dreams. This time OPN is more immersive than ever. Rather than nostalgia it reimagines lost sounds as vessels for new emotions. The artwork is a painting by Indiana-based artist Abner Hershberger an abstract yet organic reconstruction of the North Dakota plains where Abner grew up.
