Description
This is an incredible opportunity to own one of the most sought after jazz albums in recent times.
My understanding is that only 500 copies were pressed. It was recorded in 1964 by Paul Gonsalves during time he spent in Europe, avoiding problems with the American Musicians’ Union of the time.
This would seem to be a 1st pressing.
The matrix numbers are: Side 1 VMGT 2017 1B / Side 2 VM GT 2018B. At 9 o’clock in the run off groove on each side is the number 1.
The vinyl itself is in beautiful condition. There is spindle wear but it has been really well looked after and I would grade it as a really strong ‘Excellent’ on both sides. There are no marks and the vinyl has retained its original sheen really well.
Both sides play beautifully and the sound is rich and warm. There are no clicks at all and very little, if any, background noise, other than the wondrous music.
The cover is odd, in that the previous owner has put cellotape round the edges for no apparent reason There is also some cellotape on the front to the right hand side. The cellotape has faded / yellowed with time and is so very noticeable. I have tried to show the effect that has had on the back and front of the cover but would be happy to post other pictures if necessary. The previous owner has also underlined the track titles in blue biro on the back cover.
I would grade the cover as ‘Very Good minus’.
Please do not let the cover put you off bidding. This is a great copy of one of the rarest, most sought after jazz albums.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc + or - indicates a grading in between categories
