With 'I Don't Know What the World Is Coming To', Bobby Womack's commercial streak of success came to an end. Aside the fact that the album itself has none of the warmth, charm and consistency of previous efforts such as 'Understanding' (1972) and 'Facts of Life' (1973), its overtly rock-oriented sound must have furthered alienated Womack's fanbase.
A tired sounding Womack laments to God on "Interlude #1" how his songs have brought little real social change, after which he rips into the first rock trip "I Don't Know", a track driven by hyped up drum computer beats and layered guitars. More old-school is the countrifide, lazy, mostly acoustic "Superstar", a short and sweet moralizing song on the dangers of getting too big for your britches.
Bobby's piercing electric guitar licks slide in and out again on the sensual, mid-tempo soul ballad "(If You Want My Love) Put Something Down on It", and storm the stratosphere on the heavy funk jam "Git It", the hardest jam on the LP, which is slightly reminiscent of Funkadelic's mid-70s output.
Leon Ware's "What's Your World" is laced in more funk box rhythms - coupled with real, downhome funky drumming - and fuzzed guitar riffs, whereas the album's biggest hit, the struttin' "Check It Out", is the only tune here that really has that 100% Muscle Shoals vibe so prevalent on his predecessing LPs.
In fact, "Interlude #2" is downright scary in its bleakness, a brooding, haunting piece of gospel that may have aptly demonstrated Womack's mindset at the time of recording this album. The naked honesty of its despair does make it the LP's strongest showing.
After a greasy, rawed up take on "Jealous Love" - a song Bobby had written for Wilson Pickett in 1968 - the album ends on a good two-punch note; first there's a stomping, old time church clappin' duet with Bill Withers ("It's All Over Now"), and Bobby concludes this mixed bag with a authentic bit of gospel testifyin', wrapping his raspy pipes around the traditional "Yes, Jesus Loves Me".

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).
(b) The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP
