Up for auction is an insanely rare copy of the Bob Marley album "Rastaman Vibration" originally released on Island Records (ILPS 9383) in 1976. This is a guaranteed, authentic first U.S. pressing, not a cheap reissue, later printing or import. Has the all-important "1A" and "1B" etched in the matrix run-out, indicating this as a first printing on the correct "Black" Island label. Also has the correct and original first pressing embossed, textured gatefold cover which simulates burlap--later printings were smooth. And what makes this copy so special is that it includes the ultra rare and original press kit that was included only with very limited edition promotional copies.
The promotional kit is in mint condition and includes the 12" X 12" "The Marley Scrapbook 1976," a super cool 16 page compilation of newspaper clippings and rare, unseen photographs. No signs of wear whatsoever. Kit also includes a glossy, 8" X 10" black and white photo of Marley with his personal management contact information. Mint condition. Also includes an 8" X 11" reproduction of a rare interview with Bob Marley published in "People" magazine. Mint condition. This promotional package is impossible to find outside the rare "burlap box" promo copies for this album. This copy could be from one of those boxes, but there is no way to know for sure.
The album itself is in absolutely superb condition. The original, textured, heavy-weight gatefold cover shows virtually no real signs of wear or previous handling. There's a miniscule amount of rubbing of a couple corners, but it's hard to see. The front is perfect, no wear, which is so common for this matte cover. Seams are strong, no splits and no rubbing loss. Spine is perfect, no creasing--obviously this cover has not been opened more than a couple times. Back cover is also clean, with a very faint spot of rubbing in upper middle that's also very hard to see. The textured interior of gatefold is super clean. It's unlikely that you'll ever find a nicer example of this cover. Easily grade the cover Near Mint (NM).
The vinyl is also in beautiful condition, which includes the original black Island paper inner sleeve. Nice high gloss original luster on the faces. No scratches or scuffs. Clean labels, no marks around the spindle holes, indicating very little, if any, previous play. Again, has the 1st pressing "1A" and "1B" stampers etched in the run-out matrix. Super clean. I've owned this copy for years and never played it, except to check it for quality, and it sounds great. Grade the vinyl Near Mint (NM).
