Description
Bob Dylan: Bob Dylan Self-titled first album Stereo Columbia Records CS 8579 Six-Eye label Inner Groove Matrix numbers: side 1: XSM 5561-1A b/w side 2: XSM 5562-1B ! ! ! (c) 1962
Released 50 years ago this year, this started it all for Bob Dylan. This is a first pressing Stereo version of the record. At the time of release, a stereo pressing was an anomaly, very few were pressed. Estimates are that only 1400 to 2200 copies were first made of this record in stereo; and only a very few of those were on the Columbia "six-eye" label.
The vinyl is in good to very good minus condition. It still has a brilliant shine to it, but it also has a number of scuffs and scratches on it. None are too deep, they look mainly to come from improper handling of the record rather than it being played over and over for years, or from having a heavy needle mistakenly pulled across it.
I've played the record on a GLI Pro SL 1900 turntable and a Thorens TD 160. It does have some pops and crackles in places, surface noise in some others, but no skips. It plays much, much better than it looks, and it looks very good.
The label does not have a lot of spindle marks.
The cover is also in very good shape (see photos) with no split seams. Note that there is a tear on the front cover, near the top of the guitar's fretboard.
The record originally came inside the album jacket in one of Columbia's clear plastic sleeves; I have put it in a rice paper-lined sleeve. The original plastic is included in this sale.
