Description
I’m going through a spouse-enforced domestic de-clutter that leaves me having to take some tough decisions about reducing the size of my old record collection. This is one of the casualties.
It’s one of those ‘rare and unusual’ Bob Dylan recordings that were issued in the late 1960s/early 1970s. I believe I might have bought this one in San Francisco in either 1969 or 1970. Issued under the Great White Wonder banner, it’s the Winklhofer Records release entitled ‘While The Establishment Burns . . .’, a 12”, 33? rpm LP pressed in dark purple, see-through vinyl (unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the photos don’t bring out the colour too well).
Over the years there has been a multitude of copies, imitations, spurious replications and re-pressings of these very special albums, both in vinyl and on CD, but this is one of the genuine, original articles. They were very hard to come by at the time of their release. They couldn’t be advertised or sold openly, outlets were few and far between and getting hold of one required an element of detective work, the building of mutual trust and considerable negotiation. Compared with the price of a regular album at the time, these LPs cost a small fortune.
Consisting of live recordings, possibly taken from a 1966 concert in Dublin, the album has a total playing time of just under 52 minutes. The track lists, as printed on the labels, are as follows:-
Side 1 (1848-A): Ramblin’ Down Thru The World; Bob Dylan’s Dream; Tomorrow’s A Long Time; New Orleans Rag; The Walls Of Red Wing; Hero Blues; Who Killed Davy Moore?
Side 2 (1848-B): Visions Of Johanna; 4th Time Around; Just Like A Woman; Desolation Row.
The record itself is in good condition. It has a couple of minor surface scratches on Side 1 but these are barely audible on playback. Its inner sleeve is completely intact and untorn. The top edge of its outer sleeve has some minor scuffing, in particular to its corners. The reverse of the outer sleeve has a note written in ink, which has subsequently been deleted (see photos). Other, faint and undecipherable, printed marks on the reverse of the outer sleeve are original.
Rest assured that the record will be packed for despatch very robustly.
