BOB DYLAN "Highway 61 Revisited" 1965 UK CBS 1st MONO EARLIEST MATRIX & UNCREDITED FLIPBACK SLEEVE - SUPERB

BOB DYLAN
Highway 61 Revisited

ORIGINAL UK CBS (BPG 62572) VERY FIRST *MONO* PRESSING (September 1965) OF DYLAN'S SUPERB SIXTH LP AND HIS FIRST TO GO COMPLETELY ELECTRIC, "Highway 61 Revisited" IN FANTASTIC CONDITION WITH PRACTICALLY FLAWLESS PLAYBACK (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A LOUD VOLUME!)

SIMILAR TO THE EARLY BEATLES' MONO PRESSES THESE ORIGINAL DYLAN MONOS ARE
REALLY THE ONLY WAY TO HEAR THIS ICONIC MUSIC IN ITS FULL GLORY - THE MONOS HAVE A MUCH MORE IMMEDIATE, FRESH AND UNDILUTED SOUND THAN THE STEREOS - AND THEY STILL SOUND AS VITAL AND VIBRANT TODAY AS THEY DID OVER 45 YEARS AGO

PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL THIS IS THE EARLIEST 1965 PRESSING AND IT HAS THE HEAVILY TEXTURED DEEP ORANGE CBS LABELS WITH '33' SPEED INDICATION AND "BLOSSOM MUSIC" CREDIT
THE MATRIX NUMBERS ARE AGAIN, THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE:
SIDE ONE: 62572 - 1A - 1 (with an "A" at the 6 o'clock position to the matrix)
SIDE TWO: 62572 - 1B - 1 (with an "A" at the 6 o'clock position to the matrix)
AND THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE FIRST ISSUE, FRONT LAMINATED TRI- FLIPBACK SLEEVE WITH NO PRINTERS CREDITS AND TRACK TIMINGS UNBOXED ON THE REVERSE. THE SPINE IS ALSO 'PINCHED' AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM
AND IT'S COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL ISSUE WHITE POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH "MADE IN ENGLAND", UK PATENT NUMBER AND 'BRITISH & OTHER PATENTS PENDING' BLACK TEXT (it was too early for the orange company inners which CBS first used in 1966)

ALL THESE CHARACTERISTICS CONFIRM THAT THIS IS THE EARLIEST PRESSING EVER RELEASED IN THE UK IN SEPTEMBER 1965

Taking the first, electric side of Bringing It All Back Home to its logical conclusion, Bob Dylan hired a full rock & roll band, featuring guitarist Michael Bloomfield, for Highway 61 Revisited. Opening with the epic "Like a Rolling Stone," Highway 61 Revisited careens through nine songs that range from reflective folk-rock ("Desolation Row") and blues ("It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry") to flat-out garage rock ("Tombstone Blues," "From a Buick 6," "Highway 61 Revisited").
Dylan had not only changed his sound, but his persona, trading the folk troubadour for a streetwise, cynical hipster.
Throughout the album, he embraces druggy, surreal imagery, which can either have a sense of menace or beauty, and the music reflects that, jumping between soothing melodies to hard, bluesy rock.
And that is the most revolutionary thing about Highway 61 Revisited -- it proved that rock & roll needn't be collegiate and tame in order to be literate, poetic, and complex.

SIDE 1: LIKE A ROLLING STONE / TOMBSTONE BLUES / IT TAKES A LOT TO LAUGH, IT TAKES A TRAIN TO CRY / FROM A BUICK SIX / BALLAD OF A THIN MAN
SIDE 2: QUEEN JANE APPROXIMATELY / HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED / JUST LIKE TOM THUMB BLUES / DESOLATION ROW

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright, fresh and unmarked with moderate spindle traces (which show readily on these untreated rough textured labels - please see close-up photo which was taken at an angle to show these spindle marks at their worst) - this copy has been frequently enjoyed over the years but also extremely well cared for as is evident from the beautiful surfaces and the sensational quality of the audio it delivers
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and have a beautiful lustre. On close inspection under a bright light there are some hairlines evident but these have no audio consequence - the audio is superb (and apart from these hairlines the surfaces are unmarked)
VINYL Audio: Sensational Mono audio delivery - crystal clear, warm, rich and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, barley any clicks or pops (really hardly any worth a mention and none which rise above background level) and barely any surface noise. This is a sensational copy - just about the finest first pressing I have ever heard, and the cleanest, and the whole LP plays with superb clarity, no discernible groove-wear and no distortion. Strictly graded EXCELLENT+ for audio (if not better, as its practically flawless) - this is a fantastic copy and even though it's obviously been frequently enjoyed it still sounds great and plays pretty much perfectly from start to finish - great stuff
SLEEVE: The original tri-flipback sleeve is in VERY GOOD+++ condition. The front laminate has a beautiful unrubbed deep glossy sheen and the unlaminated back is pretty clean with some printing smudges and additional original owner writing (please see close up photos). There whole sleeve is crisp and sharp with no creasing (just some feathering to the opening edge) and no evident storage rubbing to the edges and the spine displays all text clear and bold. Lovely example of this original sleeve
