I had forgotten just how much I loved this album. One of those trusted old favorites. The kind of album you pull out, slap on and nobody ever complains. More often than not somebody would ask who it is... I'd show them the cover and say its Catfish Hodge. That was always followed up with a "who?" This record features guest performances from Sneaky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel, Bonnie Raitt on guitar and background vocals, Mac Rebennack on piano, and James Montgomery on harp. Rob "Catfish" Hodge was originally from Detroit. He played in a few different bands, warming up for Little Feat and Bonnie Raitt.

Keep Driving Me Crazy starts things off nicely with a Motown-influenced rocker. The boogie piano and steel somehow careen into a swampy groove. Blending seamlessly right into Silver Arrow makes a smooth transition. With the slide and acoustic sound of country rock, it would sit nicely alongside an early Eagles album track. In Bulldog he seems to channel howling Taj Mahal. Oscar Teo tells the story of a dying old man who tells him he had a mighty fine time. Des Woman steps up the pace again starting side two. Dr John's piano and Sneaky Pete's crazy electric steel carve such a deep groove. If you ever want to be reminded of his pedal steel mastery, reference this track. It's All Over Now drifts back towards country rock with a Motown tune, while still maintaining that sweet steel guitar sound. Take a Look in The Mirror borrows its sound from New Orleans with piano and pedal steel mixing it up once again. For Free, a Joni Mitchell cover respectively closes out this classic.

While this acetate is in a BEAUTIFUL state of preservation, we do expect bidders to understand that the aluminum-based, shellac-coated acetates can never be graded by using the exact, same stringent standards used by collectors for modern long-play, hi-fi LPs or singles. The buyer – if not familiar with acetate (reference) recordings - should be cautioned that these discs were intended for brief, limited use only; they were meant to be played only a few times, then discarded or destroyed. In view of this, the surface layer of the disc is manufactured in such a manner that it will wear off pretty quickly, even under normal conditions -- and specially if not handled with due care. Each subsequent playing increases wear and tear of the disc’s surface layer and diminishes the disc’s playability. This disc appears to have been unplayed recently and the grooves are still well-formed and fully visible.

This acetate is in about VERY GOOD ++ (VG++) condition, with some minor, superficial scuffs. Absolutely NO part of the shellac (surface layer) of the disc is  missing, and the surface layer is NOT dented, chipped, broken or otherwise compromised.
