Bo Diddley's second album, 1959's Go Bo Diddley, didn't have as many hits and instant classics as his self-titled 1957 debut, but in terms of ceaseless rhythm, choppy guitar heroics, fearless statements of purpose, and inspired eccentricity, it's nearly as brilliant as Bo Diddley, and no one who follows Bo's genius should be without it. Go Bo Diddley has it all -- oft-covered classics ("Oh Yea," "Dearest Darling"), hoodoo blues workouts ("You Don't Love Me"), red-hot dance numbers ("Don't Let It Go"), tall tales ("The Great Grandfather," "Willie and Lillie"), stories of romantic difficulties ("Crackin' Up"), Bo getting frantic on his guitar ("Bo's Guitar," in case you couldn't tell), Bo and maracas man Jerome Green trading insults ("Say Man"), and even Bo showing off his skills on the violin ("The Clock Strikes Twelve"). The recording is full of that priceless five-foot-thick Chess Records echo, which only adds to the epic-scale mystery of these performances, and Bo is audacious and energetic on all 12 tracks. Bo Diddley was always one of the most unusual artists in the first wave of rock & roll, a guy whose sound and songwriting style always set him apart from his peers, and Go Bo Diddley finds him sounding truly individualistic, and truly entertaining to boot. An essential item for fans of early rock at its most beautifully bent.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY MARK DEMING, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

Ladies and Gentlemen, you are looking at the conception of Rock'n'Roll. This is the source of all that its primal, atavistic, rude, crude and lewd (in the positive sense of the word, of course) in all of R&R: Bo Diddley not only single-handedly invented the entire R&B genre, he not only parented what is probably the single most memorable of all R&R riffs, but also acted as a midwife at Rock's birth. We proudly present here Bo Diddley's MONUMENTALLY RARE second album.

The list of the bands and artists who covered songs on this album reads like who-is-who of Rock: Dave Edmunds, Etta James, Shadows of Knight, Allman Brothers Band … This album is a DEFINITION of "classic".

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a tape residue (yellowish discoloration from the removed piece of old and aged scotch tape) along the top and bottom seams

-        Cover has tiny, spot-like peel-off marks, most likely from the carelessly removed scotch tape from the top and bottom seams (total area covered: about 1.1/2 square inch)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a small quality control (inspection) stamp on the back panel

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)

-         Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
