Blue : Leisure A-1U / B-1U 1st Press 1991
This first pressing plays with exception clarity, depth and power with barely any intrusion. There is just a minimal amount of light static for a few seconds that is all and a handful of very quiet ticks. It truly is a superb listen and it could hardly play any better. The sonic quality is out of this world and I can confidently say it has hardly ever been on a turntable based on the audio and that there is no spindle wear on the labels. The vinyl itself is super clean with only some light hairlines.
The cover is in fantastic condition, almost 'as new' with only a couple of very minor corner rubs. The lyric inner is also in superb shape - this is a STUNNING album!

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a very impressive glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. There are some faint sleeve removal hairlines as you would expect but they obviously have no affect on the audio. The labels are so clean with only a couple of white 'specks' on the S2 label. I cannot locate any spindle wear!
Play grading
The intro on 'She's So High' has only minimal static at the start and the opening vocal section plays with perfect clarity. It continues in the same precise way with no intrusion on the audio, the playback is just so clean! The mid instrumental has only a couple of very light statics and the final vocal is faultless. This is easily a Near Mint start to this classic debut album.
The first 4/5 seconds on 'Bang' has a little static and the rest of the intro is superb. The first vocal is 'as new' and this high end standard is kept up right to the end. No ticks, clicks, pops or static there is no background - the intro is Ex and the remainder is Mint for sure.
The 'heavy' intro on 'Slow Down' plays such deep rich audio and the opening vocal has no intrusion either. In fact every vocal and instrumental section all play with stunning precision and you can turn this up to max without fear of any distortion. Mint
'Repetition' provides further evidence of a vinyl that has hardly been played... if at all! The intro plays with stunning clarity and Albarn's opening vocal is just as good. It continues to play with that depth and resonance that we have kind of come to expect now and there is literally nothing to detract from the audio across the entire 5+ minutes! The clarity and depth is indeed STUNNING and I only 'noticed' a couple of mega quiet statics. This is Mint- although, as I sometimes say, I'm not sure the minus is required!
The intro on 'Bad Day' is fantastic! No interference and only a couple of barely audible dust ticks. From then on 'as new' audio sums it up perfectly and again the playback is so strong, deep and clear. Pure Mint audio from start to finish.
The intro on 'Sing' has only very minimal light static but you really have to listen out for it! As the percussion comes in the audio is flawless and it continues in much the same way. There is no intrusion on the audio and if there is any inner groove distortion it is kept to an absolute minimum, hardly worth a mention really. It plays with superb definition and power throughout and the quiet ending plays with great clarity also. I will grade this classic as Near Mint just to be a little cautious - a stunning hypnotic track that could hardly play any better.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The run in on S2 has some static and a pop but that is before the music starts of course! The intro on 'There's No Other Way' plays with sublime clarity and the opening verse and chorus are 'as new'. It continues to play like it was pressed only yesterday, there are no negatives. It's hard to believe this album is now 32 years old and you wouldn't think so listening to it! A Mint- track at the very least.
'Fool' and 'Come Together' both play with stunning clarity and power from start to finish with zero interference. Mint
The intro on 'High Cool' has 3/4 minor ticks on the intro, they are very quiet, and the opening vocal is close to perfect with only a couple of mega quiet ticks. From then on it plays with great clarity, power and depth and without any background. It seems a little harsh to downgrade because of a handful of minor ticks but Near Mint is more than fair.
The quiet intro on 'Birthday' is so clean with only a small number of very quiet dust ticks and Albarn's opening vocal is just STUNNING! It continues to play with incredible clarity which is all the more impressive because so much of it is so quiet. The high octane finish could not play any better either. I cannot overstate how well this plays and Mint- is no exaggeration.
The powerful intro on 'Wear Me Down' is so strong and deep and this applies to every section. The sonic quality is comparable to an un-played vinyl and this is quite simply a breath-taking version of this classic. The clarity, the power and the definition of the audio is STUNNING and the work from Coxon here is superb! There is no inner groove distortion and it easily grades as MINT - WHAT A VERSION!!
In summary this genuine first press plays with superb audio on both sides with no clicks or pops and only the bare minimum of static on a couple of tracks. In all honesty it could hardly play any better and it is obvious this record has hardly been played before. The sonic quality is incredible and in conjunction with a STUNNING cover and lyric inner this will add to any high end collection.
The Cover & Lyric Inner
The cover is so so close to perfect and I have never seen better. Three of the corners have a tiny 'rub' and that's it! The edges, spine and opening edge have no marking / wear and the front and back cover are pristine. I will say Near Mint+ as it is a stunning example. It has been so well preserved over the last 32 years.
The glossy inner sleeve is in beautiful condition with no real wear. Just a couple of very small faint creases that are not easy to find!
Play tested on my Rega P2 with Rega Carbon Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
