Description
"Rave on" was Buddy Holly's biggest UK hit in his lifetime - reaching number five in the summer of 1958 and staying in the top 30 for fourteen weeks. Although the song fits Holly like a glove, it wasn't written by him but by Sonny West and Bill Tilghman, who had previously provided the Crickets with "Oh boy". Sonny West had also recorded the song for Atlantic Records but his version failed to make any impression. In an era when rock'n'roll and its founders came under attack as a bad influence on teen-agers, "Rave on" was singled out by one critic as 'mood music for stealing hubcaps', but motorists seem to have survived this threat. - JOHN BEECHER
This is my favorite record from my Holly collection. I acquired it from an antique mall in Muskegon, Michigan in the 70's and will miss having it.
