Description

This is a wonderful copy of this rare and sought after BLUE NOTE album, "LOU TAKES OFF", featuring an all star line-up: LOU DONALDSON, alto sax, DONALD BYRD, trumpet, CURTIS FULLER, trombone, SONNY CLARK, piano, GEORGE JOYNER, bass, and ART TAYLOR, drums.. This is TRULY quintessential BLUE NOTE 50's JAZZ at its best. The horn arrangements are GLORIOUS!

This LP was released in the early to mid 50s, and this is probably a second pressing. It features the well known BLUE NOTE Blue and White label. This pressing is not deep groove, however, it features the second address, 47 W. 63rd, NYC. The run out groove has the "ear" as well as Rudy Van Gelder's initials (RVG). It also features the BN-LP-1591 hand etched in the run out grooves. The labels are clean, with very slight wear and a few spindle marks.  This LP is in a very conservatively rated VG+ (VERY GOOD PLUS) condition, with clean, bright playing surfaces, with only a few light sleeve marks and a few tiny marks which are not feel-able or audible. NO feel-able scratches at all, just a few very faint marks, so VG+ is a very conservative rating. The sound is beautiful...that classic, gorgeous, rich Blue Note sound, but of course, there will be an occasional pop or click. This is a 60 year old record, and its not absolutely flawless. Its all about the music, and this LP plays great, and sounds amazing! Ive been advised by a friend who is a very experienced seller to be very conservative on my ratings, as Im an avid collector, but a relatively new "seller".The LAMINATED cover is in VG/VG+ condition, with solid spine, upper and lower seams intact, and normal shelf wear for an album that is close to 60 years old. The front is VG+, and the back is VG, it has only a bit of light soiling/age related wear, nothing serious. There is very slight seam wear, and edge and corner wear, as can be expected for a 60 year old LP. Overall, a very presentable, and most importantly, a very listenable record. The classic cover image, by Francis Wolff, and the distinctive graphics, are sharp and clear.

I am a Jazz Pianist and Recording Artist, and have been collecting Rare Jazz LPs for many years. This is one from my personal collection. I assure you, all the LPs I will be offering here have been meticulously taken care of, and only played rarely, on a Sota Sapphire Turntable, with a Grado Reference Cartridge. They have been kept inside a temperature controlled room in my home, in plastic dust jackets. In other words, you can bid in confidence, knowing these LPs come from someone who has loved them and babied them. I reluctantly am beginning to sell some of my LPs, and hope they go to someone who will love them as I have.

All LPs will be carefully packed in strong, proper LP boxes, well protected, and sent USPS PRIORITY MAIL or EXPRESS MAIL so proper tracking is available. Media Rate for domestic shipments is available, but not recommended. For overseas buyers, ( Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, etc)  we recommend EXPRESS MAIL, or REGISTERED MAIL for proper tracking. We keep very close watch on all shipments through United States Post Office and Customs. Shipping costs are always based on your location. I do not add "handling"fees, costs will be exactly as I am charged by the shipper of choice. Good Luck to all bidders!
