Description
This is an EXCELLENT copy of this scarce BLUE NOTE album, "BASS ON TOP" by PAUL CHAMBERS. This LP probably dates from the mid 1950s, and features PAUL CHAMBERS, BASS, KENNY BURRELL, GUITAR, HANK JONES, PIANO, and ART TAYLOR, DRUMS. Truly an ALL STAR LINE-UP! This is quintessential 50s BLUE NOTE JAZZ at its best. Regarding BLUE NOTE RECORDS: As we all know, the performances are legendary, and the Blue Note sound is simply stunning.
This LP was probably released in the mid 1950s, and it is the FIRST PRESSING. It features the well known Blue and White label, DOUBLE SIDED DEEP GROOVE. It features the 47 W. 63rd address on both sides. It has the matrix # BNLP 1569 A and B hand etched in the run out groove, as well as the Van Gelder stamp. It has the famous Plastylite symbol (the "Ear") on both sides. No "R", No "Inc". This LP is really very nice, and Im conservatively rating it VG/VG+. There are a few light, non-feelable marks, nothing major. The Laminated Jacket is also in VG/VG+ condition. There is an (approximately) 4 inch separation on the top seam from the jacket opening, which Im leaving alone for the new owner to decide how he or she wants to repair. There is glossy clear tape on the bottom seam only, which matches the gloss of the laminate, so it is barely noticeable. There is light wear on the bottom of the spine, where the laminate has dissipated somewhat, very minor. There is the usual light soiling and shelf wear, mostly on the back cover, common for a 60 year old LP. There is a small stamp of the (original?)owners name, and a small sticker with the number "25" on it (see pics) Im sure this can be steamed off if new owner wishes to. Ive owned the LP for 25 years, and it never bothered me so I left it there! The classic Francis Wolff photo, and the graphics, are sharp and clear. The labels are clean, with a few faint spindle marks. The LP itself is the heavy thick vinyl associated with these early to mid 50s pressings, and the BLUE NOTE sound is amazing, engineered by the incomparable Rudy Van Gelder!
I am a Jazz Pianist and Recording Artist, and have been collecting Rare Jazz LPs for many years. This is one from my personal collection. I assure you, all the LPs I will be offering here have been meticulously taken care of, and only played rarely, on a Sota Sapphire Turntable, with a Grado Reference Cartridge. They have been kept inside a temperature controlled room in my home, in plastic dust jackets. In other words, you can bid in confidence, knowing these LPs come from someone who has loved them and babied them. I reluctantly am beginning to sell some of my LPs, and hope they go to someone who will love them as I have.
All LPs will be carefully packed in proper LP boxes, well protected, and sent USPS Media Rate, unless specifically needed sooner. We can send priority mail if desired. Shipping costs are always based on your location. I do not add "handling"fees, costs will be exactly as I am charged by the shipper of choice. LPs can also be sent Fed-Ex ground, if preferred, although this can be a bit more expensive. Good Luck!
