Black Sabbath : Technical Ecstasy 1Y4 / 2Y6 1st Press 1976
This first pressing plays to an incredible standard with no interference at all. The clarity, depth and power of the audio is phenomenal and it easily classifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing. I am confident in saying that as I have played every track in full and all I heard was one very quiet tick and a handful of minor statics. Much like the next album, Never Say Die, the production quality is often criticised but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with both! It is certainly better than I remembered. Of course it always helps when the vinyl is as clean as this i.e. it is visually stunning and has clearly hardly ever been played.
The cover is in fantastic condition and is not far off 'as new'. The lyric insert is also in superb order and the original inner sleeve has only a little wear.
Interestingly the 4/6 matrix is not listed on Discogs but I am happy to include it here as an early first pressing. It is definitely from 1976 and has the MELYS etching on both run outs.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can a small number of faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out. It has been so well preserved and has hardly been played. The Vertigo spaceship labels are in pristine condition with no marking or spindle wear.
Play Grading
The intro on 'Back Street Kids' is strong and deep with no intrusion. The opening vocal section is just as impressive and it continues in the same way. Although not known for its production I am impressed by the sonic quality here and Mint is an easy grade to give.
The quiet intro on 'You Won't Change Me' plays with outstanding clarity, there is no background worthy of mention. As Iommi comes in the audio is superb and it certainly harks back to early Sabbath. The first verse is perfect and the second is close to that with just one minor tick near the start. From then on it plays with sensational with literally no background. Woodroffe's keyboard really add to this classic track and Iommi is on fine form also. Every section plays with impeccable quality and even the fade out is super clean. Mint-
'It's Alright' is clearly a change of direction and from start to finish it plays with stunning precision. Ward on writing and vocal duties and there is not one single negative. Mint
The 'percussive' intro on 'Gypsy' is 'as new' and Ozzy's opening vocal is equal to that. The instrumental bridge again has no interference and this high end standard is kept up as it progresses. Once again it plays like it has never been on a turntable and for a final track it is sonically very impressive. For example Iommi's superb solo at the end has no distortion and the fade out has no background either. Another Mint track.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'All Moving Parts (Stand Still)' on S2 plays with stunning quality through every vocal and instrumental. It may be not be typical Sabbath, a step too far experimentally perhaps but there is still some superb Iommi work here. Mint
The intro on 'Rock 'N' Roll Doctor' provides an 'as new' start to the track and you are thinking Sabbath of old. It then reverts to their 'new' sound but it's still a strong and the clarity, definition and power cannot be faulted. Put simply it plays with stunning precision from the first note to the last with nothing to detract from the audio. Mint
The intro on 'She's Gone' plays beautifully with only a couple of barely audible statics. The opening vocal section plays with perfect clarity also and it continues in the same exact way. It's one of those ballads that Sabbath do so well and I have never heard a better version, it is STUNNING! The 'orchestral' sections are spectacular and the clarity of sound throughout is phenomenal. It the definitive version and has to grade as Mint- at the very least.
'Dirty Women' closes the album with exceptional quality once more. The opening vocal has one barely audible tick and even tick is too strong a word! From then on it plays with a clinical precision, every note so clean and sharp for a final track. Superb work from Ward as usual and the vocal sections could not be any stronger. However, it's Iommi that takes centre stage and his 'sound' is stunning throughout. There is no inner groove distortion and it's another track that could not play any better. Incredible to think this vinyl is 50 years old next year! The end section is so powerful and definition and separation of the audio is immense! A flawless Mint version and wow what an end to the album!
The Cover, Lyric Insert & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in superb condition with barely any wear, it's difficult to find anything! The edges are unmarked and the spine is just as clean with only a little compression here and there. All corners are in fantastic shape and the opening edge is pristine. The front cover has just one small spot and a handful of tiny creases next to the spine which hardly warrant a mention really and the back cover is just as impressive with only a small number of edge creases next to the spine again. This is a stunning example of this cover.
The lyric insert has been so well looked after and has just one tiny blemish and one small corner crease. The original poly-lined Plastic Bags inner sleeve has no side splits and is very clean with only some glue residue showing through mainly along the top edge and it has one small tear on the central aperture.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
