Black Sabbath : Tyr 1st Press 1990

This very collectable first pressing on the I.R.S. label plays with incredible quality and there are no clicks or pops and only the bare minimum of light static on a couple of intros.  Superb sound and fully play tested as always!

The cover is in fantastic condition, 'as new' in fact with no shelf wear and the lyric inner is equally as good.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in excellent condition and has hardly been played judging by the audio and the complete lack of spindle wear.  There are a number of faint hairlines and some minor 'specks' but as you can see from my grading below they have no bearing on the fantastic quality of the audio.  I'm sure they have been caused by slipping inside around inside the lyric inner, a common feature with relatively 'thin' vinyl, and there are no scratches I hasten to add.  The run out grooves and labels are in perfect condition.

Play grading  

'Anno Mundi' has only minimal static on the intro and as Martin's vocal begins the clarity could not be any better.  As Iommi comes in the depth and power of the music is spectacular!  This may not be 'typical' Sabbath but you cannot help but be impressed by the quality of the audio here.  This really is a stunning version and if the intro is Ex+ then the remainder is most definitely Mint the sonic quality is superb.

'The Law Maker' does not require very much description.  Quite simply it plays 'as new' with wonderful definition and no 'background' of any kind, not even a dust tick.  It is Mint from start to finish.

'Jerusalem' is of the same 'high end' standard.  Every note can be heard perfectly and again there is no interference.

'The Sabbath Stones' has only a small number of light ticks on the intro and first verse but the music and vocals still come through very clearly.  From that point on it plays beautifully without any 'background' even during the quieter acoustic verses.  There is no inner groove distortion either.  A fantastic version!  The intro is Ex and the remainder Mint

'The Battle Of Tyr' has only light static on the intro and there are no clicks, pops or crackle.  It then plays with sublime quality and barely any 'background'.  This is Ex+ at the start and Mint- for the remainder.

The segue into 'Odin's Court' is perfect and clarity does not diminish as the vocal begins.  It progresses in much the same way with only a small number of barely audible dust ticks - I only hear them as I sit so close to the speakers!  This is Mint- from start to finish.

Again the segue into 'Valhalla' is 'as new' and it continues to play in the same precise way.  You can turn it up to maximum and the sound just envelops the room - there is no distortion at all.  An easy one to grade - Mint in every sense of the word.  The fade out has no interference either giving you an idea of the sublime clarity on offer here.  As impressive a version as you could wish to hope for.

Not perhaps in keeping with the rest of the album 'Feels Good To Me' nonetheless plays with stunning quality from the first note to the last.  The clarity on the quiet intro is superb and it continues to play with great depth and power.  Mint

'Heaven In Black' ends the album in supreme style with Mint quality audio throughout.  As always I have listened to the entire track and there is not one iota of interference.  It plays with stunning power and depth.

In summary this first pressing plays to a 'high end' standard with not one single click or pop and only a minimal amount of very light static on a couple of intros.  It is often said this album is somewhat 'over- produced' in true 90s style you could say!  However, there is no denying the power of the audio here and whilst there are some hairlines it has obviously only been lightly played thus retaining its original audio quality.

The Cover

This is in immaculate condition, I do not need to say very much!  The edges, spine and opening edge are 'as new' and the front and back cover are totally unmarked.  There is just one very tiny crease on the bottom right corner but would be the kind of thing you would find in the record shop when first purchased!  A fantastic cover for sure.

This is also in perfect condition which is a rarity when you consider it is made with relatively thin paper.

The Labels

They are 'as new' with no marking or writing and no spindle wear.
