BLACK SABBATH Paranoid LP Rare VERTIGO 1st Press JIM SIMPSON/BIG BEAR credits
Hi Ebay Enthusiasts,
This record is part of an amazing selection of vinyl which I have inherited. The music spans from 50's - 90's including rockabilly, country, classical, rock'n'roll, blues, rock, jazz, funk, soul/northern soul, reggae, ska and afrobeat, hip hop and r&b... which I will be listing over the next few months. There are lots of rarities, although there are some reproductions of hard to find records. I am not a connoisseur neither do I claim to be an expert. I am just a music lover who appreciates good music. I will be grading by visual inspection and listening to the record. If you have any questions concerning a particular record feel free to contact me. I will try, as best I can, to give an accurate and honest description. If you feel my description has been inaccurate, please contact me first before leaving negative feedback..so we can resolve the issue speedily.
I endeavour to entertain customer satisfaction, should a problem arise with your item please contact me immediately by e-mail. A full refund is available on return of the item within 7 days of receipt.
Right enough of that......up for sale is
Artist: Black Sabbath
Title: Paranoid
Format: 12" (Vinyl 33) LP
Country: UK
Label: Vertigo 6360 011
Year: 1970
Description: Original issue not re-issue.
Condition (Disc/Sleeve): EX/ VG+
The vinyl.
On initial visual inspection of the playing surface vinyl looks great and still retains its sheen. Only in strong light could possibly any very light surface marks and scuffs be seen, mainly sleeve removal only, nothing that would cause any loud clicks or pops!
Although I never heard any clicks (there were a few soft pops on Side A) during the playback of this record please allow for the odd isolated static/tick/light surface noise here and there, certainly NOT consistant throughout the audio, please remember that this is a genuine 43 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 43 year old system at some point in it's life!!!In my opinion a professional clean can only enhance the audio, something i feel is best left to the purchaser to decide on.
The labels.
The original VERTIGO labels are in great condition!!!! Features the swirl on Side A and the Large swirl logo and track listings on Side B (only earliest press, all rights.... are featured around the label rim(only early press)!!!!!!! Any spidering is very minimal in my opinion and can just barely be seen angled to the light only, it is obvious that this vinyl has had only minimal play, little if (no) spindle wear, so rare for an album that is 43 years old!!!!! Very, very collectable indeed!!!!
The cover.
This is the original 1st press Vertigio gatefold (unlaminated) front, cover! This shows very light general storage wear\marks\indents only! Any creasings\lines can be seen if looked for, angled in the light very superficial and light general rubbing consistant with age but this is still strong and straight in appearence!!!!Amazingly no major nasty creases (see photo) superb condition of this 1st pressing cover which is nearly 43 years old!!There are no splits or tears, there is slight rubbing on corners and all text can be read!!!!!! No nasty hand writing!!!The spine is straight and suffers from no flattening with age! This must grade at least VG+ in my opinion!
The Inner Sleeve.
Original Vertigo poly lined sleeve that has some spotting and light staining (common on these originals due to the fact that the resin in the glue causes this over time. There is a 2" tear on the side with patent no.
Comments: Collectors Item!! An excellent original UK pressing with only light hairmarks. No break between "Hand Of Doom" and "Rat Salad". 1st pressings of Paranoid came with two versions of the rare unlaminated cover, and these are genuinely almost impossible to find in anything like decent condition. The Holly Grail Paranoid covers, is unlaminated and has the following text:
"Management / Jim Simpson, BigBear, Birmingham." Reputably only a few hundred of these were printed, as Jim Simpson, was unceremoniously removed as Sabbaths manager, and the cover was reprinted without the Big Bear credit.
The matrix and mother stampers.
side a. ''6360011'' ''1Y'' ''#1'' ''420 1'' (THE VERY EARLIEST EVER MATRIX VERY HARD TO FIND)
side b. ''6360011 ''2Y'' ''#1'' ''420 1''
Doesn't come round that often....don't sleep on this one!!
GRADINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
A SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING RECORDS
Unless buying a vinyl record that is SEALED, or in NEAR-MINT condition, there will always be some type of surface sounds, or background noise, known as pops and crackling.
If the LP has been played a couple of times, it can never be perfect. This is especially noticeable in classical and jazz records, which have quiet passages.
You are buying vinyl LPs because they sound better than CDs, however the pops and crackling come with an LP.
VINYL GRADE
M = Never been played or used.
NM = This record appears virtuously flawless. If there is a flaw, it should be very hard to see. Very minor scuffs and very little else can appear on the vinyl. It should play clean with a crisp fidelity throughout, without any noise over the flaw.
EX = Minor scuffs, marks or light scratches which are only slightly visible. There may be more than a few, but, it should play clean with a crisp fidelity throughout, with some minor background noise permissible.
VG =Record shows wear and has surface scuffs or light hairline marks. The vinyl still has a good luster, but the flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye and may cause some surface noise.
G = Loss of lustre to vinyl. several scratches and heavy marks (deep enough to feel with fingernail) that will affect the sound and groove wear will be noticeable. Will play without sticking or jumping but will have surface noise throughout.
F = Looks and plays bad, possibly skips. Plenty of hiss, clicks, or pops.
P = Just a collection filler, to look at.
SLEEVE GRADE
Mint (M) = No stickers ,address labels or writing on the covers or labels. No tears or seam splits or wear to the cover. Flawless.
Near Mint (NM) = The cover appears virtuously flawless, with only very minor signs of wear and/or age.
Excellent (EX) = Artwork is clean and still close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor ring wear) but not the ink is permissable. Light creasing is permitted,no wrinkles or bends or anything obtrusive to the eye.
VG =Artwork is clean with slightly more aging. The back of the cover usually gives away the age of the cover. Flat white paper will be somewhat yellow yet no stains or mildew from water damage. Some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through.
G =Several (but not all of the following flaws may apply): Seam splits, large marker writing, major seam splits, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears cuts, gouges ,masking or duct tape seam repairs or other flaws and damage. Probably only used as a collection filler until a better copy can be found.
Please note there may be a difference between grading with a (+/-) , all this means is that there is a very slight upgrade/downgrade.
