ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)
Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band from Birmingham. The original band line up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) is the same as the current line up (2007) although there have been many shifts of personnel over the years. Black Sabbath remain a dominant influence in the heavy metal genre
Paranoid is the influential and iconic second album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, and contains some of their most famous work, including the songs "Iron Man", "War Pigs", and the title track "Paranoid."
Released September 18, 1970 in the UK, only seven months after the band's debut, Paranoid is Black Sabbath's only UK #1 album, displacing Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water for one week.
Paranoid peaked at number 12 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart (North America). The singles "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" peaked at number 61 and number 52, respectively, on the Pop singles chart. "Paranoid" as a single went to number 4 in the UK. In 2003, the album was ranked number 130 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The original UK vinyl release was in a gatefold sleeve, with the generic Vertigo 'swirl' inner bag. The inner of the gatefold had a b/w photo of the band, posed outdoors on a grassy hill, being their first appearance on album artwork. To spread the original picture over the gatefold, Osbourne was separated from the other members of the band and a section of the grass was copied and dropped into the gap. This is only readily apparent when one sees that original promo photo, whereupon it is then easy to spot the added grass on the LP.
The album was originally titled "War Pigs" but it is said that the record company changed it to "Paranoid" because of sensitivity about the Vietnam War. However, the band's visual interpretation of a "War Pig" was still featured on the cover. Nonetheless, the album's title and its picture of man with a sword jumping out from behind a tree meshed well together and the cover is now considered a classic album cover.

THE AUDIO
I have carefully played the album twice before listing at high volume and am pleased to say that it plays through with absolutely no skips, jumps. Generally the audio is absolutely very clear, loud and vibrant with great stereo separation. The album does however play with some static / dirt type crackle ticks, some clicks and the odd pop. The record is listed as a very collectable album not primarily for its audio, however I found it to be a very playable copy especially as the music comes through loud and vibrant as stated. Obviously with an album of this age a certain amount of static/dirt crackle has to be allowed for.
THE VINYL
The vinyl is of course the heavy robust early type, and generally very clean, there are a few minor scuffs/needle marks which cause some clicks and ticks.
THE COVER
The cover is the Vertigo laminated gatefold cover. Generally the cover is in pretty good condition with no splits or tears. It shows a certain amount of storage wear with a few laminate crease to the edges, but these are not severe. The spine is square and straight with legible writing some of the laminate has lifted from the spine but there is no damage. The person I bought the album from many years ago had written his name written neatly on the inside right of the cover.
THE LABELS
These are the original VERTIGO labels and feature the swirl on side A and the swirl logo and track listings on side A (only early press) All rights.... are featured around the label rim (only early press). There is some spidering to be seen when angled showing the album has been played but not overplayed.
THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
