2 GAPS BETWEEN TRACKS ON SIDE 2
This is Black Sabbath's second album from 1970 on the Vertigo swirl label catalogue number 6360 011. It has the large swirl with Vertigo printed at the bottom of each label. There are only 2 gaps between tracks on side 2 and not 3 as on later pressings. The sleeve has the "Management Jim Simpson Big Bear Birmingham" credit which was removed on later sleeves. The vinyl weight is 143g and has the matrices 1y//1 2y//1.
GRADING VG / VG
The grading given is a conservative one as the record plays through great with no jumps, sticks loud clicks or distortion. In fact it sounds great. It is evident that the record has been played quite a few times as there are a number of spindle trails and also some light hairlines and bag scuffs. Some of these light hairlines cause a few light clicks in places such as at the start of track 1 for 7 or 8 revolutions and intermittently on side 2. Some of the scuffs cause a very faint rasp on track 3 "Planet Caravan" which is only evident due to the quiet nature of the music. None of these faults overpower the music but this is not the record for the most fussy of collectors. The labels are in excellent condition and the original swirl inner is very good with only some age discolouration.
The gatefold sleeve is unlaminated and in common with most Vertigo swirl sleeve is very prone to wear. Being predominantly black highlights any issues but this sleeve is at least very good with little really. There is some rubbing to edges, mainly the bottom one from shelfwear but the spine is still readable. There are a couple of surface creases to the rear from handling and a few little indentations that do not show through the colour. The inner gatefold with that important credit is excellent.
To sum up then a very rare early pressing that is not perfect and therefore not for every collector but one that performs very well and one that will be acceptable to most. Considering that an early one like this has just sold on ebay for £260, this one is priced keenly to sell.
