Never Say Die! is the eighth studio album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in September 1978. It was the final Black Sabbath studio album to feature vocalist Ozzy Osbourne prior to his departure from the band in 1979 until the 2013 album 13 and the last full studio album to feature the band's original lineup. It was certified Gold in the U.S on 7 November 1997 and as of November 2011 sold over 133,000 copies in America since the SoundScan era.

Never Say Die! was the final Black Sabbath album to feature the entire original line-up. At the time of the recording of Never Say Die! the members of Black Sabbath were all heavily involved in drug and alcohol abuse. Prior to recording, vocalist Osbourne briefly quit the band and was temporarily replaced by former Savoy Brown and Fleetwood Mac vocalist Dave Walker. "We had a few internal problems," Osbourne admitted to Sounds magazine. "My father was dying, so that put us out for over three months with the funeral and everything. I left the band for three months before we got back together to record it."

The album was recorded at Sounds Interchange Studios in Toronto. "We went to Toronto to record it, and that's when the problems started…" said Tony Iommi. "Why Toronto? Because of the tax, really. The studio was booked through brochures because people thought it might be a good one. We got there and it had a dead sound – totally wrong. We couldn't get a real live sound. So what we had to do was rip the carpet up and try to make it as live as we could. They were okay about it, but it took time to get it exactly right. There were no other studios available."

The band wrote a handful of songs with replacement vocalist Walker, with that short-lived line-up even performing an early version of what would later become "Junior's Eyes" on the BBC programme Look Hear. Osbourne eventually rejoined the band, refusing to sing any of the songs written with Walker. These particular songs were redone, including "Junior's Eyes", which was rewritten to be about the then-recent death of Osbourne's father. Drummer Bill Ward volunteered to sing closing track "Swinging The Chain", another of the songs written with Walker, when Osbourne refused to sing it. Being short on new material, the band were forced to record the song despite Osbourne's objections. While Butler received credit for "Swinging The Chain"'s lyrics, they were actually composed by Ward.

Speaking in October 1978 of the new album, Osbourne said "It's a combination of what we've all been through in the last ten years. It's a very varied album. Like, we started out playing in blues clubs, because British blues – like John Mayall and early Fleetwood Mac – was the thing at the time. We were into a twelve-bar trip and early Ten Years After-style stuff. So it's part of that sort of trip. Then there's the heavy thing and the rock thing. It's not just steamhammer headbanging stuff all the way through… We got rid of all our inner frustrations: what each of us individually wanted to put down over the years but couldn't because of the pressures of work. So we put a lot of painstaking hours into developing this album.

The sleeve was another by Hipgnosis and the US and UK releases differed slightly in the faint images of British military pilots seen in the sky. The inner-bag featured graphics in keeping with the sleeve and credits, but no lyrics. The aeroplane on the cover appears to be a North American T-6 Texan

The labels.

The original Vertigo Spaceship labels are in awesome condition! (These look as new condition in my opinion)!   Amaizingly there is no spider marks or no signs that this has ever been played at all, even when angled to the light and of coarse (no) spindle ware   This has only ever been played one time by me only to play grade for this listing. So rare  for an album that is 35 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable!

The vinyl.

The vinyl is absolutely superbe! On initial visual inspection this looks like new Near As Mint in my opinion! and still retains its sheen from new  and is free of any warping and lays flat on he turntable. (please note this vinyl has only ever been  played by me personally one time! in the last 35 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ringware and damage This is how I have always stored my records In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I can't see a blemish at all. There are no audio sounding marks or blemishes that I can see at all! This looks almost as unplayed in my opinion! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only but again ,I find it hard to see any at all!

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! The moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has barely ever been played at all!  The audio quality is as you would expect, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! cristal clear and extreemely vibrant through out in fact this plays as a new vinyl would sound in my opinion!    This played through as perfect as it gets unbelievable audio seperation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout almost cd. quality on my systems! This vinyl has been stored seperately from the cover in a poly sleeve for all of its storage life! This is the way I always  have stores my records! The audio on this pressing in my opinion is almost as good as it gets for a very early and the 1st pressing! Even in between tracks this is almost quiet!  This is the best audio that I have heard of this pressing!  I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and 8th EVER ALBUM RELEASED  by this awesome band ''black sabbath'' and so hard to find the earliest 1st pressing like this! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near as mint through out!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any clicks or pops during the play of this record please allow for the odd static/ tick , certainly not consistant throughout the audio, but this is a genuine 35 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 35 year old system!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 35 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recomended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original 1st issue 1st UK pressing thick card lyric insert record sleeve. No splits or tears like new because it has been stored seperate from the vinyl to prevent and damage. (Please note! Later pressings have much thinner sleeve and much later pressings have just plain white sleeves) Often these become split at the sides not this one you could not hope to find better in my opinion.

The Cover

This is the original and earliest 1st UK press fully laminated cover! This is absolutely superbe! Rarest ever to find without ring wear no scuffs at all No creases on the front very very minor crease at the rear but certainly not noticed unless looked for in strong light. Rare to find in this awesome condition super straight in  appearance (see photos) . Perfectly straight spine. Truly remarkabel for 35 years old!  JUST TRY TO FIND A BETTER ORIGINAL! I would grade the cover at least excellent plus to near mint! No splits or tears, straight.

Very very rare and scarce Archive copy Final upgrade Collectors copy!
