In 1979, FORTY years ago, powerhouse singer Ronnie James Dio left Rainbow. Rainbow, of course, was Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's new band, and RJD was there since the beginning. After meeting the guys in Black Sabbath, and hanging out and drinking with them, he decided to join them. The result? A hard rock and heavy metal masterpiece!
That classic album turns FORTY next year, and still sounds amazing, to this very day! I watched as the Sabs fought in the press with Ozzy and his new group. I decided NOT to choose between the two of them, as I loved (and still do) BOTH bands! Ozzy had Randy Rhoads, and Sabbath had RJD. Ozzy's first two albums are timeless smash hits, and Black Sabbath had an incredible first two albums with RJD!
'Heaven and Hell' is featured today, with a rare and scarce picture disc LP, as well as a STILL SEALED, and NEVER OPENED or PLAYED copy of the TWO disc Deluxe Edition CD set! The picture disc is made in Italy, by Earmark Records, by way of Sanctuary Records Group, and Get Back. This thing is beautiful! The A side is the album's original cover artwork, and the B side is the back of the original album. The B also includes song titles and credits, plus an awesome penciled sketch of the band!
In 2010, (also the year that Ronnie James Dio passed away), Gimcastle Ltd., by way of Sanctuary and BMG, reissued that metal masterpiece on a special Deluxe Version TWO disc set! Disc one is the original album, remastered! The second disc is most of the album live (minus two songs), and a mono 7" edit of "Lady Evil". This is brand new, and still in its original shrinkwrap! A sweet double shot of vintage Black Sabbath, during the original Ronnie James Dio years! And a great sounding Deluxe version of the album, adding a bunch of live stuff! Grab this one, as it surely won't be around long!
