Black Sabbath : Heaven And Hell A1/B2 1st press

This first pressing plays to a wonderful standard with no ticks, clicks or pops and barely any static, just a little right at the end of S1.  The clarity and definition of the audio is stunning and this is clearly a record that has not been over-played.  There are some faint hairlines on both sides but the good news is that they have no affect on the stunning audio quality.

The cover has only a little shelf wear and the original inner is in great condition.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in excellent condition and for the large part has a strong glossy sheen.  There are no scratches but there are some sleeve removal hairlines on both sides which are only superficial as they have no affect on the audio quality as detailed below,  There is also a little 'bag rash' on one area on S2 but again this does impact on the audio.  The run out grooves are very clean and the Vertigo labels are near perfect with barely any spindle wear.

Play grading

The 'high octane' 'Neon Knights' plays with stunning power and clarity from the first note to the last with no intrusion.  A Mint start to the album.

The acoustic intro and quiet first verse on 'Children Of The Sea' play beautifully and as the volume increases there is no let up in quality.  It continues to play with great definition and again there is no interference.  The next acoustic section also plays with sublime clarity and the remainder is faultless.  Another Mint track.

'Lady Evil' plays with stunning quality from start to finish and, you guessed it, no interference.  Mint 

'Heaven And Hell' ends the side with imperious quality.  The bass sections are so strong and there is no 'muddiness' to the sound and only a minimal touch of inner groove distortion on the fast paced end section.  It still plays incredibly well and the final acoustic section has only very minimal static.  So Mint- for the majority and Ex+ at the end.

'Wishing Well' carries on this fine form and grades as Mint from start to finish.  Great power and definition and no sign of any interference.

'Die Young' has barely any static on the quiet intro and then plays to a superb standard!  You can turn this up to max without any distortion and the playback could not be any more impressive.  The quieter mid section 'chorus' has no 'background' and the remainder is 'as new' without a doubt.  What a version!  Mint-

'Walk Away' plays to the same 'high end' standard with no intrusion and again it's the power and depth of the music that really stand out.  Oh and the clarity is quite impressive too!  The long fade is also nigh on perfect with only a minor touch of light static literally at the end.  Will grade as Mint- to be cautious :-)

The powerful intro on 'Lonely Is The Word' is 'as new' and it continues to play with a quality that cannot be faulted in any way.  Iommi's work here is phenomenal and of course Dio's vocals are as strong as ever.  This is a STUNNING version and as per the previous track there is only a minimal static right at the end of the fade out.  A Mint- finish to the album.

In summary this first press plays to a wonderful standard with no ticks, clicks or pops and only a very minimal amount of light static at the end of S1.  The clarity is stunning on both sides and the strength and definition of the audio is so impressive also.  A stunning album. 

The Cover & Inner

The cover has a little shelf wear but there is certainly no 'structural' damage.  The edges have barely any rubbing and the spine is in great shape with very little corner wear.  The top right corner has only minimal wear and there is just a little more bottom right.  The opening edge is very clean indeed.  The front cover is unmarked but does have some faint creases around the edges and a couple of minor 'crimps' next to the opening edge.  The predominantly white back cover is very clean with only minimal fading around the edges and one faint crease bottom right.

The original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags...' inner is in superb condition with no side splits, barely any creasing and only a little age related fading along the top edges.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
