Another from my personal collection of Black Sabbath albums that I have acumilated over a period of more than 45 years! This is the Ninth Sabbath near mint archive album that I have listed in the last few days on Ebay when they are gone they are gone! This album has only ever been played by me one time to play grade for this listing. The vinyl looks and sounds as new. No Scratches No Spindle ware looks totally unplayed condition. Rarest to ever possibly find the very earliest with #1 and #2 matrix endings The original cover is also exceptional! Very Very scarce especially in this condition you will not find better in my opinion. Please check out my other UK Black Sabbath albums listed now and more to come in the next few days!

Heaven and Hell is the ninth studio album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released on 25 April 1980. It is the first Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who replaced original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979.

Vocalist Ronnie James Dio was first introduced to Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi in 1979 by Sharon Arden, ironically the future wife of the band's recently-fired vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. Initially Dio and Iommi discussed forming a new band, not a continuation of Black Sabbath. The pair met again by chance at The Rainbow on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles later that year. Both men were in similar situations, as Dio was seeking a new project and Iommi required a vocalist. Said Dio of the encounter, "It must have been fate, because we connected so instantly." The pair kept in touch via telephone, until Dio arrived at Iommi's Los Angeles house for a relaxed, getting-to-know-you jam session. On that first day the duo wrote the song "Children of the Sea".

Black Sabbath's line-up was in chaos prior to the recording of Heaven and Hell. Not only had Osbourne recently been replaced, but drummer Bill Ward was battling personal issues that would see him eventually leave the band. Original demo recordings for the album featured Geoff Nicholls on bass, as the band's longtime bassist Geezer Butler was going through a divorce and his future with the band was in question. In fact, when Dio first joined the band he was doubling as bassist and vocalist, having played bass in the band Elf in the early 1970s. At one point Iommi contacted close friend Frank Zappa for help finding a bassist. Zappa offered his bassist for the Heaven and Hell sessions but Iommi preferred a permanent member. Eventually, Butler returned and Nicholls stayed on as the band's unofficial keyboardist. Former Elf and Rainbow bassist Craig Gruber also rehearsed with the band during this period, though the true extent of Gruber's involvement is unclear.

In a 1996 interview, Iommi stated that Gruber rehearsed with the band only "for a bit". Gruber has stated that his contribution was much more substantial; he claims to have co-written most of Heaven and Hell's songs and that it was actually he and not Butler who played bass on the album. Despite not being credited for his contributions, Gruber claims "we came to a suitable financial arrangement". Iommi later stated in his 2011 autobiography that Gruber did in fact record all the bass parts on the Heaven and Hell album, but that Butler re-recorded the parts upon his return to the band.

Dio suggested the band hire producer Martin Birch for the album. Birch was the first outside producer the band had used since 1971's Master of Reality, as Iommi had primarily produced the band's albums since that point on his own. Iommi stated that the band felt during recording that they were creating "something very special". The album title Heaven and Hell was chosen from a lyric written by Dio about the highs and lows of being a musician.

Drummer Ward has stated that he has "no memory" of making the album, due in large part to his alcoholism. His behaviour became quite erratic; when the band began touring in support of Heaven And Hell, Ward began dictating long and rambling press releases to the band's public relations representatives after every show, instructing them to "get that out on the news wires tonight". Ward's personal issues, which included the deaths of both his parents, would soon force him to leave the band. Dio reportedly answered the telephone in his hotel room one morning mid-tour to hear Ward say "I'm off then, Ron", to which Dio replied "That's nice Bill, where are you going?". "No, I'm off mate. I’m at the airport now...", indicating that he was incapable of completing the tour with the band. American drummer Vinny Appice was quickly brought in to replace him.

Heaven and Hell was re-released as part of the Black Sabbath box set The Rules of Hell in 2008.

The labels.

The original orange Vertigo labels are in awesome condition! (These look as new condition in my opinion)!   Amaizingly there is no spider marks or no signs that this has ever been played at all, even when angled to the light,, you can even still see the plastic in the spindle hole! and of coarse (no) spindle ware   This has only ever been played one time by me only to play grade for this listing. So rare  for an album that is 34 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable!

The vinyl.

The vinyl is absolutely superbe! On initial visual inspection this looks like new Near As Mint in my opinion! and still retains its sheen from new  and is free of any warping and lays flat on he turntable. (please note this vinyl has only ever been  played by me personally one time! in the last 35 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ringware and damage This is how I have always stored my records In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I can't see a blemish at all. There are no audio sounding marks or blemishes that I can see at all! This looks almost as unplayed in my opinion! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only but again ,I find it hard to see any at all!

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! The moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has barely ever been played at all!  The audio quality is as you would expect, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! cristal clear and extreemely vibrant through out in fact this plays as a new vinyl would sound in my opinion!    This played through as perfect as it gets unbelievable audio seperation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout almost cd. quality on my systems! This vinyl has been stored seperately from the cover in a poly sleeve for all of its storage life! This is the way I always  have stores my records! The audio on this pressing in my opinion is almost as good as it gets for a very early and the 1st pressing! Even in between tracks this is almost quiet!  This is the best audio that I have heard of this pressing!  I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and 9th EVER ALBUM RELEASED  by this awesome band ''black sabbath'' and so hard to find the earliest 1st pressing like this! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near as mint through out!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any clicks or pops during the play of this record please allow for the odd static/ tick , certainly not consistent throughout the audio, but this is a genuine 34 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 34 year old system!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 34 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recommended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original poly lined sleeve on splits or tears there is a price sticker still attached on one side could easily be removed if need be there are no splits or tears.

The Cover

This is the original and earliest 1st UK press un- laminated cover! This is absolutely superbe! Rarest ever to find without ring wear no scuffs at all No nasty creases on the front very very minor thumb crease to mention but certainly not noticed unless looked for in strong light. Rare to find in this awesome condition super straight in  appearance (see photos) . Perfectly straight spine. Ant dulling or fading at the rear is minimal. Truly remarkabel for 35 years old!  JUST TRY TO FIND A BETTER ORIGINAL! I would grade the cover at least excellent plus! No splits or tears, straight.
