Artist: Birds Birds (featuring Ronnie Wood)

Title: Say Those Magic Words / Daddy Daddy

Label: Reaction (591005)

Year: 1966 (UK 1st Pressing)

OVERVIEW A rare opportunity to own an affordable 1966 UK original of this Freakbeat "Holy Grail." This is the legendary Reaction label pressing, identifiable by the textured blue label and machine-stamped Philips matrices.  I’ve owned this copy since the late 1970s, since when it’s always been stored safely on record shelves.  I’ve just cleaned it carefully in a Spincare record cleaner.

DETAILED CONDITION REPORT

Visual Grade: FAIR (F)

The vinyl has lost its factory lustre and shows significant hairline marks and surface scratches on both sides. The B-side has some dulling/greying to the finish.

·       Labels: Original textured Reaction labels are intact with no writing or stickers. B-side label is somewhat worn.

·       The central pushout is not present, so an adapter is required for play.

·       Please see photos. All are of the copy that is on sale here: some are taken in a light box; others are under separate warm LED inspection lights.

AUDIO GRADE SIDE A ("Say Those Magic Words"): GOOD+ / VERY GOOD (G+/VG)

Plays surprisingly strongly – see video. Despite the visual marks, the audio is loud, punchy, and clear. There is light background crackle in places and occasional ticks, but NO skips, jumps or sticks. A good "play copy" for DJs or home listening.  The video shows it playing on my Audio Technica AT-LP60X.

AUDIO GRADE SIDE B ("Daddy Daddy"): POOR (P)

Plays with significant surface noise/crackle.  NOTE: There is a locked groove approximately 2/3 through the track. It stays in one place until the tonearm is lifted over or nudged. Other than this, it plays to the end.

MATRIX / RUN-OUT DATA (1st Pressing Proof) These are machine-stamped (not handwritten), proving authenticity:

·       Side A: 591005 A * ▽1 (Features the rare factory-stamped correction mark)

·       Side B: 591005 B // 2

·       Stampers: Side A (1 at 3 o'clock); Side B(1 at 3 o'clock, 3 at 9 o'clock)
