Description
BILLIE HOLIDAY "The 1st Verve Sessions" Vintage Vinyl Double Record 1952-54 Live Recordings Verve Jazz Label Blues Compilation VE2-2503 Rare OOP Granz
VISUAL CONDITION RATING: VINYL, EXCELLENT w/light hairlines; COVER, EXCELLENT, Gate Fold, Negligible Edge Wear, Very Clean
Norman Granz rescued "Lady Day" in the early 50's after she lost her N.Y. cabaret card. Her voice was deteriorating from drugs & alcohol but it was also deeper, grainier, & more expressive. Granz wanted to capture & preserve her classic voice and style on his jazz label, and she really needed the money. So they made these recordings according to his strict "no rehearsal" policy, to which Holiday was more than happy to oblige.
