BILL MASON – Gettin’ Off (1972) Eastbound-9000 – EX/Strong VG (cover/vinyl)

Killer jazz funk on the collectible Eastbound Records label led by organist Bill Mason who was in Rusty Bryant’s band. He’s joined by Hubert Laws on tenor sax and flute, Gary Chandler on trumpet, Wilbert Longmire on guitar, Gordon Edwards on Fender bass, Idris Muhammad on drums and Ron Coleman on conga. The tracks are “Getting’ Off,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “Now Run and Tell That,” Stone,” and “Mister Jay.”

This is a nice copy overall with light scuffs to the vinyl. The cover is tight and bright with no seam splits and is really nice with no wear. The vinyl is clean and glossy, but it has some line scuffs – primarily on side 1 – that do cause some audible surface crackle. It’s not terrible at all – it’s still enjoyable – but it does cause some noise. There aren’t any skips or repeats when played on my Pro-Ject turntable. But be aware not all turntables reproduce sound/play the same. I grade this conservatively: EX/Strong VG (cover/vinyl).
