Description

I am parting with some of my treasured LPs.  Here's a US pressing of the great BIG JOE TURNER LP from 1958, titled JOE TURNER on the Savoy Burgundy label.  A great early JOE TURNER LP, his second.  His was a regional sound, coming out of Kansas City.  He was highly influential to R&R bans of the time, and after. Bill Haley and the Comets covered his song Shake, Rattle, and Roll and made a huge hit with it.  And he would be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame for his incredible songwriting, recordings, and influence.  Also of note on this LP is his pianist, Pete Johnson who kicks some a*#.  He was one of the best of the boogie boogie piano players of the time, and although he flew under the radar, he was an important artist of the Kansas City scene.  This was at a time when early R&B artists mostly preferred the keys rather than the guitar, and Pete was as much of a stand out in Turner's music as Johnny Johnson was in Chuck Berry's... And, not to mention that this LP was mastered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder who's RVG stamp is stamped in the runoff-
This LP is in great condition.  The cover is colorful and glossy with minimal signs of age.  Bottom seam has a couple dings, the spine is perfect, and the top seam has some separation on the spine side for a little more than 2".  The back cover shows some ring wear.  The LP labels are nice with a mark or 2 around the spindles.  The LP has a gloss to it, but also shows some finger prints from handling.  The LP plays and sounds great, and although the vinyl looks a VG+, it plays closer to NEAR MINT.  A KILLER EARLY BIG JOE TURNER LP!! 


I love original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.  PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER LPS FOR SALE NOW ON EBAY.  I AM POSTING SOME TREASURES.  SOME ARE RARE AND COLLECTIBLE, AND OTHERS ARE JUST GREAT ALBUMS LIKE THIS ONE IS.
