BENNY GOLSON SEXTET - The Modern Touch
A little played and wonderful condition copy of this US 1st press jazz gem rarity

1958 Benny Golson jazz gem on cherished deep groove US Riverside record label : excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - completely flat, nice and weighty with earliest A/B matrices and difficult to detect any blemishes at all. Both sides of the vinyl gleam with almost perfect retention of it's original jet black lacquered sheen and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just a couple of very wispy hairlines and extremely faint small paper scuffs come into view on each side, and on side 2 (mostly track 2) just some occasional and very minor vinyl discolouration (you have to look really closely to see it) where the vinyl lacquer has reacted ever so slightly with the poly-lined inner sleeve resulting in some extremely light, very occasional and non-intrusive static...trivial but I mention it nonetheless for completeness. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played - remarkable, especially considering it's 64 year old antiquity. Excellent plus (EX+) condition RCA Victor labels with just a couple of small & extremely faint spindle trails next to the centre hole on each. Note the circular "deep groove" on each label - a clear indicator of very early pressings. Excellent (EX) condition front side laminated thick cardboard outer sleeve with firm unscuffed edges, near perfectly defined right angled corners with just a little rubbing on each, and some very mild surface storage/handling marks on the original "paste-on' towards the edges on the reverse side (see photos). The spine remains rock solid with just a little surface "crinkling" and a little sporadic age "browning" - trivial but noticeable so do look at the photos - and all spine text is intact and legible. The opening edges are firm with no fraying or feathering, and all colours/art work remain vibrantly intact with great definition still. Highly presentable, iconic and a definite "excellent" condition grading. Excellent plus (EX+) MONO audio quality with no skips, sticks, jumps, repeats, interference, distortion or background interference/crackle (just the odd nanosecond of unintrusive static). Even the dead wax run-ins and run-offs are silent...remarkable! Simply great tone with crystal clear MONO audio quality throughout with Benny Golson (tenor sax), J. J. Johnson (trombone), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), & Max Roach (drums) in great form. Brilliant!
Rare and difficult to find, especially in condition as truly impressive as this, and a worthy addition to any serious jazz vinyl collection. POSTAGE COSTS :

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
