Description

BEE GEES - ODESSA

RARE 1969 ORIGINAL MONO POLYDOR DOUBLE VINYL LP

Label / Catalogue Numbers - POLYDOR / 582049 & 582050

Very hard to find mono pressing with the original felt sleeve, much rarer than stereo copies as mono was well on it's way towards being phased out in the UK by 1969.

CONDITION:

RECORD -  Overall VERY GOOD

I have play graded this album throughout and will grade the individual sides of the album.

Sides One, Two and Four - VERY GOOD

Sides one, two and four of the album have light scuff marks and a few light scratches on the vinyl, though not too many.   All three sides have some light crackle in the more quiet delicate parts of the album and a few occasional pops.  These pops / clicks are not frequent and don't repeat themselves for very long, usually just two or three revolutions.  There are no pops or clicks that repeat across entire tracks or a long section and they are mostly not very loud.  These three sides play through to a very good standard, are enjoyable to listen to and don't have any major faults.

Side Three - VERY GOOD-

Side three plays through very well too, without major faults, but it visually and audibly is lesser than the other three sides.  There is more crackle on side three, mostly on 'Sound of Love' and 'Seven Seas Symphony'. The beginning and end of 'Sound of Love' has some quiet surface noise and crackle.  'Seven Seas Symphony' has the most surface noise, crackle and clicks of any track on the whole album, but it still plays through well, though it is noticeable and could be considered intrusive, as this is a delicate instrumental track with quiet passages.

Overall this album plays through very well, with no jumps, sticks or other major faults.  There is some crackle and are some clicks along the way, more so on side three, but they mostly are not too loud or intrusive.  A lot of the LP plays through cleanly and it is an enjoyable listen, if not for the perfectionists.  I have given a long and detailed description as I would like bidders to have an accurate idea of the condition of these records.

LABELS - EXCELLENT  The labels have light spindle trail around the centre hole, but no writing, stains or other faults.

SLEEVE - EXCELLENT  The sleeve is in excellent condition.  This unique gatefold felt sleeve is one of the most prone to wear of all albums.  This one is well above what is normally seen.  The front and back only show some light wear.  There are no parts where the felt or gold text has wore away.  There are also no tears or writing.  This is a beauty of an album cover and a well above average example of this hard to find in decent condition sleeve.  The sleeve states 'mono' on the inside, so this cannot be changed for one of the more common, but still scarce original stereo covers.  Odessa is currently out of print on vinyl and is highly unlikely to ever be reissued with this felt sleeve. It never has been since 1969.

Records are graded using a Technics SL-2000 turntable with a new Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge.
