BEATLES “Yesterday and Today” Mono 2nd State Butcher

This is a really nice 2nd State Butcher Cover of The Beatles’ LP entitled “Yesterday and Today”, released in Mono on catalog number T-2553. Pasted over the original “butcher” cover is the trunk cover slick that is extremely clean and shows Ringo’s “V-Neck” clearly beneath the slick to the right of the trunk. This 2nd State cover shows absolutely no sign of any attempts to peel the trunk slick in order to reveal the butcher slick beneath, which one can only assume is in pristine condition.

The front cover is virtually flawless except for some minor yellowing on a small portion of the right side, and what appears to be “pinholes” on the very bottom right corner. If I were to grade condition on front cover alone I would grade it VG+. The back, of which I grade (better than) VG, shows some light ring wear as well as a few soiled areas (of which I have not attempted to clean), as well as a small water mark on the lower left corner. It also bears a very small purple pencil mark in the upper right quadrant. The number next to the RIAA stamp is #6, indicating its Los Angeles origin.

The top and bottom seams show some signs of wear. The spine shows wear to the point of almost being split on the lower portion, although most of the writing on the spine is still intact. There is also a one-half inch section on the top of the spine that also shows signs of tattered wear.

The vinyl, enclosed in its original orange sleeve from the Los Angeles plant (#PE 12 3BL), is in very good condition with surface scratches, only one of which can be felt but is very minor and not intrusive. The matrix numbers on the vinyl contain the suffix F23 on both sides, again indicating pressing at the Los Angeles location. The Capitol rainbow labels on both sides are very clean.
