Description

ULTRA-RARE BEATLES LOT: 7 45s FROM THE CAPITOL OF CANADA 72000 SERIES, INCLUDING RINGO’S “LOVE ME DO,” "FROM ME TO YOU," "PLEASE PLEASE ME" AND FOUR MORE! PLUS, A BEATLES BONUS!

In 1963, way before American teenagers (like me) even heard of The Beatles, Capitol Records of Canada released five single 45s. Each had a five-digit catalog number beginning with 72.

Because the earliest ones were pressed in very limited quantities, and because of their place in music history, these first five records in the 72000 Series—and two of four that followed in early 1964—are today considered some of the most valuable of all the Beatles discs!

AND YOU CAN HAVE THEM ALL!

YOU GET SEVEN 1963-64 CAPITOL OF CANADA 72000 SERIES BEATLES RELEASES!

AND A FABULOUS BONUS TO THE WINNING BIDDER!

In the order that they came out, here’s what you get (please see Disclaimer):

CAPITOL 72076 LOVE ME DO / P.S. I LOVE YOU

An excellent copy of this first Beatles single release! As you probably know, the A-side includes Ringo on drums. Producer George Martin replaced him with a session drummer on the version recorded a week later and which we still hear to this day. Ringo never forgave him. But his work is preserved on this still-great-sounding disc, which has only a hint of ringwear on the label, but no writing, no tears or labels. The hand-etched matrix number is 7XCE-17144-6 on the A-Side, and 7XCE-17145-5 on the flip side. The perimeter print is easily readable. Note that the word “Canada” is NOT in brackets, indicating that this was, indeed, one of the 1963 releases (the brackets were added in 1967).

CAPITOL 72090 PLEASE PLEASE ME/ ASK ME WHY

You’ll enjoy exceptional sound, with just a hint of surface noise, on these two terrific tunes! Both sides show age-appropriate label wear, and there’s a name on the A side. I don’t think you can ask for much more after almost sixty years.

CAPITOL 72101 FROM ME TO YOU / THANK YOU GIRL

Put this highly desirable disc on the turntable and any minor surface noise is quickly overwhelmed by the sound that “the boys” intended. The A side has some remnants of a peeled-off piece of tape from long ago. Still great songs, though.

CAPITOL 72125 SHE LOVES YOU / I’LL GET YOU

Initially pressed in September 1963, the record generated little interest—can you believe it? A second pressing was made in December, and this is the one you’ll get—note the -2 on the A-Side matrix number. “She Loves You” went to Number One in Canada and “broke” the group nationally. And you’ll love how this 45 sounds as exciting now as it did then. It even has the label from a record store in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.

CAPITOL 72133 ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN / PLEASE MR. POSTMAN

This First Pressing was the fifth and final Beatles single to be issued by Capitol of Canada in 1963…before any Capitol record came out in the U.S. It is a stunning copy, with amazing sound and an almost-flawless label.

CAPITOL 72144 ALL MY LOVING / THIS BOY

Released on March 9, 1964, it was the first single in Canada following The Beatles’ appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, on which “All My Loving” was the very first song performed for all of us on this side on the pond. And this is one sensational 45, with glorious sound and only the most minor label wear.

CAPITOL 72146 TWIST AND SHOUT / THERE’S A PLACE

Capitol of Canada put this out one week after “All My Loving.” The label has a name on the A side, with moderate wear on both sides, but you’ll find the sound to be just as great as it was for that original owner “up North” so long ago.

You’ll also get 7 Capitol company sleeves. Take a close look at the photo. Notice they don’t all look exactly alike. Capitol used over a dozen variations in the 60s. To learn more, visit Capitol Records USA (45-sleeves.co.uk).

And now, for the SUPER BONUS:

If your winning bid is $149 or more, I’ll also include 2 Beatles Solo 45s!

If your winning bid is $199 or more, I’ll also include 4 Beatles Solo 45s!

That's a potential total of 11 45s!

PLEASE NOTE: All net proceeds from this sale will be placed in a Special Needs Trust Fund for my son, who suffers from a Traumatic Brain Injury as a result of being hit by a motor vehicle. Your bid is appreciated. However, it is not a charity and there are no tax benefits.

DISCLAIMER: Beatles records are fragile and more than a half-century old. Each has been play-tested once on a newer Sony turntable used only for that purpose. They are being described here in complete, honest and accurate detail, and are sold “as is.” I don’t use letter ratings—one person’s VG+ is another person’s VG-.
