Description
Massively Rare Original 1967 U.K. Stereo 1st Pressing 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by The Beatles!!! - This is the Mega Rare Earliest Possible Thick & Chunky UK Parlophone Black/Yellow Label 1st Pressing!!! Just Look at These Stampers; GOM & GOL! YOu will have to look very hard to find Anything Earlier Than This! This Would Have Been One Of The Very First Batch To Ever Be Pressed. Complete With Original Garrod & Lofthouse 'Stereo' Flipback Gatefold Sleeve, Nr Mint 1st press Red/White 'Psych' Inner & Nr Mint 1st Issue Cut-Out Insert!!! In Sensational Condition Throughout!!! The ONLY way to own this Seminal Psychedelic Record!!!!
First off, you can set this copy of Sgt Peppers apart from virtually every other 1967 UK Stereo 1st press you will see on eBay due to (a) its mega rare earliest possible stampers, and (b) it's truly awesome condition. Regular Hazey Jane buyers know I only offer the rarest & highest grade UK 1st pressings, if they fall below my strict grading criteria, I simply do not sell them. Although it is one of my favourite records of all time, I do not usually sell many copies of this album, simply because, as true UK Stereo/Mono 1st pressings, they are virtually impossible to find in anything above Very Good condition (take a look at all the other 1st press copies on eBay now (or any other time) to see what I mean). However, on the rare occasions I do offer a UK 1st press copy of this album, rest assured it will be something special - like this one...
You are bidding on what is probably one of the best true GOM/GOL earliest 1st press copies of this album you will find today. I have only seen these mother stampers once before, that was a very long time ago on a record that was full of scratches. You will not find an earlier pressing of this record anywhere! This is ground zero for the 1967 UK Stereo 1st pressing of Sgt Pepper!
What's more this copy is in truly astounding condition and it is fully complete with cut out sheet and rare red/white wavy 'psych' or 'fool' inner! The original 1st issue cut-out page grades as a straight Mint!!! However, it is the original red/white inner sleeves that are notoriously difficult to find, they were issued only with the very first Stereo pressings, and when they do turn up, they almost always have splits to the bottom seam, and usually the side seams (they also more often than not have scribbles on them). This 'psych' inner is MINT- however with NO scribbles and NO seam splitting!!! What's more this thick & chunky vinyl is also in SENSATIONAL CONDITION!!! One of the main problems I have found with copies of this record over the years is that they almost ALWAYS turns up with very heavy groovewear and scratches. What I mean by 'groovewear' is that copies of this record almost always have a dull lifeless shine to them; they look very, very worn. This one however, is totally different. It still has a beautiful shine, with virtually NONE of the dullness. On first glance, the look of its virtually blemish-free playing surfaces (just one or two very wispy paperlines & hairlines) tells you that this is something special indeed. The contrast of the loud raw Stereo 1st press mix coupled with only very limited crackling (much better than you will hear on virtually any other 1st press copy) makes this record look and sound sensational
As we all know, UK Stereo 1st pressings were made in far smaller numbers that the more common Mono pressings (most collectors agree on a 10:1 ratio - [that's only TWO Stereo copies to ever TWENTY Mono pressings!]) The 1967 Sgt. Pepper UK Stereo 1st press is, in my opinion, the hardest Beatles album to find in anything approaching Excellent+ condition. Due to the commercial appeal of this record, virtually all 1st press copies were sold out on the day of release and played to death on crude 1960's stereo systems, the crude Mono stylus' always leading to severe dulling of the playing surfaces, surface marks and lots of crackle, pops and skips. The 'psych' inner is either usually missing, or very tatty with heavy seam splitting, and the cut out sheet has usually, well, been cut out or lost. So to find a true chunky GOM/GOL 1//1 Matrix fully complete 1st is hard enough, believe me. But to find one in STUNNING EX+++ audio and visual condition throughout like this with Near Mint insert & inner is impossible. This is an absolutely essential record for any high-grade Beatles/Beat/Psych collection and definitely worth pushing the boat out for. You will not find an earlier Stereo pressing and will be extremily hard pushed to find a better conditioned example than this! I will describe the record as best as I can. Don't hesitate to email with any questions you may have.

The classic 1st press Yellow/Black Parlophone centre labels are in superb condition!!! They have NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! Most importantly however, there are only the faintest traces of spindle alignment lines!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important matrix's are also mint!!!
The first thing you notice about this 1967 UK 1st pressing is its incredible thickness and weight - it is very, very heavy!!! Again, I cannot emphasise how very difficult it is to find Stereo 1st press copies of this LP that have not been played to death, on the rare occasions that the do turn up they are full of nasty scratches and gouges and look as if somebody has been ice-skating on them! This one is NOT!!! It looks absolutely stunning with a deep shine! It has just two of the faintest non-feelable paperlines and tiny hairlines (simply caused by removing the record from its inner sleeve; wispy, non-sounding and invisible unless holding the record angled toward strong light).
The quality thick & chunky 1st press vinyl looks and sounds absolutely stunning!!! And remember - this is the earliest GOM/GOL 1st Stereo press, straight from the master, sounding raw, louder, more defined and more punchy than all the weaker later re-pressings. This plays beautifully. Having a clear, clean Stereophonic sound is so important on this record more than so many others; from the chiming clarity of George's guitar intro to 'Getting Better' right through to the acoustic intro leading through John's awesome vocals on 'A Day in The Life'; this is a beautiful record to listen to. In fact, listening to it during the play-grade session just reminded me of why I fell in love with this record in the first place and what subtle ('Getting Better') and obvious ('A Day in The Life') genius was at work here. Were The Beatles the greatest band we have ever seen? You bet. Anyways, I picked up just the occasional quiet background pop and some very faint crackle, and some light traces of background static on 'She's Leaving Home' , otherwise it is clear, clean listening throughout. It has NONE of the constant 'hiss', so common with this record!!! This record would grace any serious high grade 1960's Beatles/Beat/Pop 1st press collection. I have graded it as Excellent+! Absolutely beautiful and so rare for this record!!!
The original 1st press Garrod & Lofthouse laminated flipback *Stereo* gatefold sleeve is also in superb condition! The laminate is in beautiful crisp, clear condition, bringing out all the bold vibrant colours of this legendary sleeve!!! It has NONE of the laminate 'dulling' common with this sleeve!!! The sleeve still retains ALL of its original stiffness and BOX SHAPE!!! It has NO unwanted writing or scribbles (again, a very common fault with other sleeves) The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NO RING WEAR!!! These 1st press sleeves always turn up totally worn out-looking nowadays with severe damage to the spine, with edge wear, stains, ring wear (especially to the back) and feathering to the opening edge. This has NONE of these faults and easily grades as Ex+!!! The opening edge is razor sharp, and all I can find to detract form this sleeve is just a little moderate corner wear, but it really is nothing serious. As I mentioned previously, please rest assured that this is in no way over-graded, what you are getting here is the real deal. I adhere strictly to record collector grading standards!!!
Importantly, it comes complete with both its correct Red/White' wavy inner sleeve and Original 1st issue Cut-Out Insert - both are in Near Mint Condition!!! Known simply as the 'Psych' or 'Fool' inner, these inner sleeves are very hard to find today. Most original pressings have lost this rare inner over the years, not least because they are very fragile and split very easily at the seams and wee sually replaced by plain white inners - this psych inner is as perfect as you will ever see!! It has NO seam splits and NO writing/scribbles, NO grubbiness and NO discoloration!!! It is Near Mint and one of the best examples I have come across in a long time!!!! The record will come to you in a replacement inner sleeve, with the psych inner safely tucked away inside the outer jacket (I treat all my original inner sleeves just like you would treat an insert)!!! The Cut out insert s also Near Mint with no unwanted scissor cuts and no scribbles/creases etc. Perfect!

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
