THE BEATLES -  SGT PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

This is an original, MINT, UNPLAYED pressing of the fabled NIMBUS SUPERCUT. Considered the best Stereo reproduction of The Beatles masterpiece, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, that has ever been made, these virtually, never come up for sale, and never in genuine MINT, UNPLAYED condition. Given how few of these were made and how collectible they are, this will surely be the last time an unplayed pressing ever comes up for sale.

The Nimbus Supercut LPs were released as a mail order only promotion to Practical Hi-Fi and Hi-Fi today magazine readers during the early 1980s. All Nimbus Supercut releases were available in very limited quantities, usually of around 1000 pressings or less, per title.

Nimbus Records have grown to achieve legendary status with audiophile collectors for their 'Supercut' releases; each release being mastered from the original master tapes using the highest available mastering processes, employing many techniques for each release that were not commonly used. An example would be that, generally, when the bass sections move from channel to channel, a groove modulation is employed to reduce the movement of the stylus, and this results in the bass being centred over both channels. It has been argued that this, or anything else that changes the original recording should be avoided, although this became common practice on the recording of many LPs.

Nimbus also had the ICI company produce an extremely pure vinyl for the LPs, which has amazing frequency reproduction and is virtually noise free - similar in quality to the 'super vinyl' used on earlier Mofi pressings. Due to their rarity and small pressing quantities, the NIMBUS Lps were often more expensive than audiophile LPs from other labels.

This rarest of vinyls is a Great Playing Record in stunning condition! It comes with a great cover with its original NIMBUS SUPERCUT sticker, and comes with the original inner sleeve, which is in its self rare, and its original Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band insert. An incredibly rare pressing of this Beatles Masterpiece in incredibly rare condition!

THE MINT NIMBUS SUPERCUT, FROM MY OWN PERSONAL COLLECTION.

Released in June 1967. Spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one on the American Billboard 200. Prominent critic Kenneth Tynan described Sgt. Pepper In The Times as; "a decisive moment in the history of Western civilisation."

Only released in a tiny quantity, this rare edition of Sgt Peppers comes complete with the original Peter Blake / Jann Haworth cut out insert in superb condition and the disc comes with the original Red / White inner sleeve. This is a great PRESS of this rare LP.

A very rare complete label pressing of Sgt. Pepper, with original Cover and Rare inner.

A COMPLETE pressing in great condition, that plays brilliantly from start to finish.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! Stunning sound quality throughout. Sgt Peppers is a complex and varied collection of music, and is also a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Within You Without You.'

The NIMBUS pressing offers unparalleled quality and authenticity, and this one sounds particularly bright, with crystal clear sound throughout. There is certainly no dominant or even particularly noticeable interference, and NO hissing, crackle, loud pops or clicks. It really sounds great and plays with TOP sound separation and clarity! The sound quality is astonishing. It's completely perfect, as flawless as a piece of vinyl could ever be.

The channels are clean and unstressed, this record plays with staggering power, with silence between the tracks. Rich and detailed sound with massive dynamics and unique mix and production.  I will give a detailed account below:

SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND bursts in with great clear sound, no pops or clicks and no static to be heard, the run ins play with incredible, crystal clear audio.

Leading into  A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS, both tracks playing with super clear audio with no pops or clicks at all. There no light tics.

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS, a track that so often has lots of interference and surface  sound, plays great. Really clear audio, a superb example, with no detectable background static at all, which is unheard-of. This really is a great audio performance.

GETTING BETTER also plays with great clear sound, again with no detectable static, you can hear sounds on this pressing that are virtually always lost.

It leads into FIXING A HOLE, again an amazing performance.  No pops or clicks at all, no pops between tracks.

The delicate SHE'S LEAVING HOME plays beautifully, with no pops or clicks, there is no static, it's a great example of this poignant song.

BEING FOR THE BENEFIT OF MR KITE plays through with great clear sound. This is an outstanding  performance.

Side 2. begins with the eastern influenced WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU, and all the complex layering is clearly defined.  There is no static at the very start, and the sound is crystal clear. No loud pops, clicks or static during the track, the audio is just superb.

WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR, another relatively quiet track, plays really well. I noticed some light static in the middle of the track, but any static is very light and there are no tics or pops.

LOVELY RITA, plays with no pops or clicks, and no detectable static.

GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING bursts in, and although it's a slightly raucous track, it is still heavily layered, there is np light static, the layering is crystal clear.

SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (REPRISE) sounds perfect and leads into the album finale and masterpiece, A DAY IN THE LIFE.

This is such  varied and delicate track, with such a range of sound effects and quiet areas, it's usually heavily overshadowed with static and even distortion. Not here, it plays absolutely beautifully, with super clear sound, and no loud pops or clicks, no surface sound, just great, crystal clear audio. Amazing clear sound, there are no light static tics, no pops and no clicks. Even in the long outro there is minimal surface sound, and it leads to the near fabled rare ending loop; a recording of the Beatles talking, which was then cut up, spliced back together randomly and played back repeatedly. Known as 'the Sgt. Pepper Inner Groove'.

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no sound blemishes. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, NmakesO sticks or jumps what so ever, and silence between the tracks.

This vinyl is an absolute gem! ' A Day in the Life ' sings out with silence in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. It would be had to ever better this audio performance.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. It's the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality makes this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud NIMBUS cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. This NIMBUS SUPERCUT is unlike any other pressing of Sgt Peppers. And this is a TOP all round example of this great vinyl.

This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the audio a straight

MINT grading.

THE LABELS

These Parlophone EMI labels are in spectacular condition, with no sticker marks or writing, and no spindle wear. There are no spindle traces. A stunning set.

Graded at MINT.

THE RECORD

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing, this record looks and sounds Unplayed, which it is! The record has great shine with no handling marks and very little detectable paper removal marks. In daylight looks largely unmarked, and also under a spot light. This is a stunning, UNPLAYED example.

Graded at NEAR MINT to MINT.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by The Beatles, released in June 1967. Recorded over a 129-day period beginning in December 1966, Sgt. Pepper sees the band exploring further the experimentation of their previous album, Revolver (1966). Making use of orchestras, hired musicians and innovative production techniques, the album incorporates elements of genres such as music hall, jazz, rock and roll, western classical and traditional Indian music; its lyrics deal particularly with themes of childhood and everyday life.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a commercial success, spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one on the American Billboard 200. A defining album in the emerging psychedelic rock style, Sgt. Pepper was critically acclaimed upon release and won four Grammy awards in 1968. Often recognised by prominent critics and publications as one of the most influential albums in the history of popular music.

The cohesive structure and careful sequencing and transitioning of songs on the album, as well as the use of the Sgt. Pepper framing motif, have led the album to be widely acknowledged as an early and ground-breaking example of the concept album.

The Beatles were present during the mixing of the album in mono and the LP was originally released in mono, alongside a stereo mix prepared by Abbey Road engineers led by Geoff Emerick.

The two mixes have many differences. For example, the stereo mix of "She's Leaving Home," was mixed at a slower speed than the original recording and therefore plays at a slower tempo and lower pitch than the original recording. Conversely, the mono version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," is slightly slower than the stereo version and features much heavier flanging and reverb effects. McCartney's yelling voice in the coda section of "Sgt. Pepper (Reprise)" before the segue into "A Day in the Life," can plainly be heard in the mono version, but is nearly inaudible in the stereo version. The mono version of the song also features drums that open with much more presence and force, turned up in the mix. Also in the stereo mix, the famous segue at the end of "Good Morning Good Morning," (the chicken-clucking sound which becomes a guitar noise) is timed differently and a crowd noise tape comes in later during the intro to "Sgt. Pepper (Reprise)".

Other variations between the two mixes include louder laughter at the end of the mono mix of "Within You Without You," a gush of laughter during the intro of the reprise version of the title track and a colder, echo-less ending on the mono version of "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!"

This NIMBUS SUPERCUT gives an unrivalled listening experience.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE COVER

The original cover, with its NIMBUS SUPERCUT sticker, made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. without Patents pending. This edition was mastered and pressed exclusively for readers of Hi-Fi Today magazine by Nimbus & has the original gold sleeve sticker intact on the front cover.

The Grammy Award-winning album packaging was art-directed by Robert Fraser, designed by Peter Blake and his wife Jann Haworth, and photographed by Michael Cooper. It featured a colourful collage of life-sized cardboard models of famous people on the front of the album cover and lyrics printed on the back cover, the first time this had been done on an English pop LP. The Beatles themselves, in the guise of the Sgt. Pepper band, were dressed in custom-made military-style outfits made of satin dyed in day-glo colours. The suits were designed by Manuel Cuevas.

A genuine rarity, this cover is also in great condition, super bright and clean and  largely unmarked. There is very little light creasing to the corners. This is a super bright example that has been barely handled.

There is very little light creasing, and any that is there is so relatively very slight. There is certainly no obvious ring wear on the front or rear, just some very light creasing to the corners. The opening edges are very square and un frayed. On the inside, right hand edge of the gatefold cover, there is a fine line of printing overspill, as with some things found only on these original Nimbus covers. The back cover is nice and clean, with very little light ring wear, which is very unusual for these covers. There is a very small area, of about two or 3 mm of damage to the top right hand corner on the outer cover, where a sticker must have been at one point, but it's really hardly noticeable.

Graded at  EXCELLENT.

THE INNER

Plain white paper with poly lining, PATENT Nos. 1,125,555  1,325,071  1,072,844, MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN.

The Sgt Pepper NIMBUS SUPERCUT came with an unusual poly lined inner sleeve, and these original inner sleeves are also incredibly rare.

This one is a super clean and bright example with some relative age wear and handling marks. It has No seam splits,  just a small tear to the very top of the sleeve, as clearly shown in the images. NO side splits and very little fraying at the top. There is a light impression of the record and a few light creases.

Graded at EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT condition.

The record will of course come in a plain white replacement inner sleeve.

THE INSERT

Originally, the group had wanted the album to include a package with badges, pencils and other small Sgt. Pepper goodies but this proved far too costly to realise. Instead, the album came with a page of cardboard cut-outs carrying the description: SGT. PEPPER CUT-OUTS . Moustache . Picture Card . Stripes . Badges . Stand Up .  The special inner sleeve, included in the early pressings of the LP, featured a psychedelic pattern designed by The Fool. The final bill for the cover was £2,868 5s 3d (equivalent to £37,531 today), a staggering sum for the time. It has been estimated that this was 100 times the average cost for an album cover in those days.

A great example in NEAR MINT Condition. No writing, creasing or stains.

RARITY

The NIMBUS SUPERCUT of Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is a vinyl legend. A genuinely tiny amount of them were produced, and anyone who has one is very unlikely to sell it. It brought together unparalleled, mastering and vinyl production, with the undisputed genius of the Beatles album Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, to create an audiophile experience that is hard to come close to.

It is an impossibly rare record, and this one is in UNPLAYED condition, other than a very careful test. I doubt another unplayed pressing will ever come up for sale.

On top of that, the cover is a great example, and even modestly worn examples are scarce. Finding a great cover like this with a solidly pressed piece of vinyl, the original inner and flawless audio, fantastic!

Finding one that has such a truly stunning audio performance, spotless record labels and the extremely rare stickered, non Patents cover makes this an extreme rarity and an absolute gem!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:

All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out the slightest defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

-

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
