Visually a VG issue. A fair amount of spider trail marks visible around the spindle areas, although not to the point of label wear or whitening. Surfaces have a good gloss still, although display a number of hairline marks and scuffs, many of which are more immediately visible. There is one tiny mark which is just deep enough to cause a problem. This is hard to actually see, but causes a single silent skip without noticeable stylus movement at the beginning of the vocal of "Girl". It is sometimes possible to work single skips such as these out by repeated playing of the affected area using heavier cartridge pressure, but I haven't attempted this.

Playback is actually very acceptable, and far better than surfaces would suggest. The loud cut seems to scythe pretty well through the surface imperfections. Some light crackle evident at run-ins, between tracks and occasionally at the few quieter areas of the LP, but the majority of the LP plays without background noise being any great issue. The surfaces do not have continuous underlying background noise. This early cut is not only louder, but brighter and punchier, and sound is still full-blooded and without any groove wear or distortion evident. No loud or continuous clicks. Aside from the single skip mentioned the LP still provides a really comfortable listening experience.

Labels are clean and undefaced both sides bar some thumbing impressions and still have a bright appearance.

Housed in thick card front laminated sleeve with visible flipbacks to rear. Small "mono" logo to top right of rear, "Printed and Made by Ernest J. Day" to bottom right of rear. For some reason this Beatles' LP sleeve seems to be one of the more robust ones, and this one has survived in very acceptable, although not perfect condition. Structurally in good order and not overworn and feathered with handling. Front panel slightly dulled with rubbing, but still very clean and free of pen, sticker etc. marks. A few laminate crease/pinch hairlines and half-moons, but no large laminate imperfections. No peeling of laminate. Rear panel gently age-toned and with a few small tan staining spots. Penned previous owner inscription to top of rear sleeve with date "January 1966". Backflaps firmly attached and undamaged. Edges and entry side have all fared very well, and are without damage. Entry side still acceptably crisp and not worn or feathered. Spine still in excellent shape. Just a very little whitening wear to tips, but this is pretty minor

Inner sleeve is a later replacement, and not an Emitex.

In summary not a mint issue, but a very acceptable example of the earliest pressing.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
