Hard-to-find 1969 UK stereo pressing of this classic and iconic LP, featuring the short-lived one-box EMI label.
Avid Beatle collectors will be excited to find this also comes in an original 1965 EJ Day sleeve – far rarer than the usual Garrod and Lofthouse version, and with the added bonus of the back of the sleeve being a – yes – rare misprinted version. The print is botched, with the images being grainier than regular copies and several black marks across the pictures due to a printing fault. This has been described as the BULLET HOLE sleeve, having turned up on a handful of mono first pressings in 1965. The theory is that this must have been an early – first proof? - run of sleeves that were never meant for sale but, as is the way with these things, a few slipped out before the mistake was rectified. EMI must have decided to use up this withdrawn stock rather than print up new sleeves for the '69 repress, hence this what-are-the-odds ultra-rare combination.
I've never seen a stereo copy with this rarity, let alone combined with the very limited run of one-box labels.
Given the excellent condition of both sleeve and vinyl, no serious Beatles collector can overlook the opportunity to own this unique LP!
The vinyl is clean and undulled by age, with a lovely fresh gloss belying its 40+ years. Forged from the original analogue master plates, this copy has a deep, fat sound, playing perfectly from start to finish with barely any noise at all between tracks and no jumps. There is a clearly visible scuff over the very end of side two, but this is almost inaudible and has no effect on the clarity and depth of the sound.
The sleeve is in excellent condition.
