Released in 1964, just as Beatlemania was reaching its apex, this abusive album of dubious legal value was available in stores for only brief moment in time, until the "Greatest Records" label was served with a very forceful cease-and-desist order from Capitol records. Needless to say, the album was pulled from the market immediately and never saw the light of day again. How "Greatest Records" managed to pull this one off, we honestly don’t know. Clearly,  the idea was to avoid crediting or mentioning the Beatles on either the cover or the label, and letting the consumer figure it out instead. And it apparently worked: those who purchased the album apparently knew that they were buying a Beatles album. The suggestive cover showing four Beatle-look-alike "mops" was a sufficient hint for most people – Capitol Records included. We note that the logo and the layout of “Greatest Records” (sic) label is extremely similar and very likely related to another Beatles label: Savage Records. We strongly suspect that the two labels were related and probably shared the same owners or management. Oddly enough, one of the sides has an "Audiomatrix" stamp completely scratched out – probably meaning that at one point this was deemed a perfectly legitimate, authorized  pressing.

The material on this album combines the very early (post-Tony Sheridan) Beatles material available in the USA on Vee Jay, Tollie and Swan Labels, before the Band signed up for Capitol Records. Please note that these are THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS BY THE ORIGINAL BEATLES.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new (minor, superficial 'hairline' scuff noted on the last two tracks on side 2)

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Minor tear / dent noted on the paper slick on the back side (this affects ONLY the paper slick, not the cardboard base)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.  (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
