Description
This is the very rare first US pressing of MEET THE BEATLES! without the ASCAP BMI or George Martin credits. Capitol was in a rush to release this LP so the very first pressings omitted the credits.
Not as desirable as the "Butcher Cover" but I believe there were a lot less of these produced.
CONDITION: The labels and cover are free of writing. The cover has a price sticker on the upper right corner that I have not messed with. I would imagine (no pun intended) it can be easily removed using heat but I will leave that up to the buyer. The cover does have some light scratches however there are no tears or splits and has minimal ring wear so it still displays nicely!
The vinyl is a deep groove MONO pressing so it sounds remarkably good for being nearly six decades old. Both sides have visible scuffs and light scratches so it was obviously played quite a bit. There is still good gloss and it may even clean up better with the help of a professional VPI or ultrasonic machine.
Side 1 sounds really great. I'd say closer to a VG+ with a minimal of noise.
Side 2 sounds VG. It has audible pops in the wax between "Hold Me Tight" and "I Wanna Be Your Man" and then again between "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Not A Second Time". It pops again at the end of that song into the runout. There is a scratch that runs across Side 2 that is most likely responsible for the pops. Please see photos for details. There are NO SKIPS or REPEATS. One last thing about the sound is that the record is loud so you only really hear the pops between those songs.
Finally, this comes with the original Capitol inner sleeve. I noticed that there is something written in pencil on the Kingston Trio ad. I didn't want to try to erase it myself so I am adding a second inner sleeve. The original is much darker than the second one but I figured a real Beatles collector could choose whichever color blue they prefer.
Overall this is a decent copy of a very rare pressing.
