Description

Up for auction is a 1960s pressing of The Beatles debut 45, “Love Me Do”, backed with “PS I Love You”, released on Parlophone cat no 45-R 4949. This copy is a black label pressing, with a 1964 release date, and “Made In India” printed on the labels. However, the metalwork from which this 45 was pressed seems to originate from the UK (matrix numbers in the run-out grooves are: 7XCE 17144-INT1 and 7XCE 17145-INT1. Additionally, most territories that issued Love Me Do on 45 released the “Andy White” version (featuring Ringo on tambourine). This copy plays the original UK 45 take, with Ringo on drums. Yep: a 1964 pressing of Love Me Do featuring the original 1962 version (the tape of which was allegedly lost or destroyed in 1963). I was surprised too.

Condition: Indian pressings are notoriously difficult to find in anything like mint condition. This 45, while it’s not mint, is a long way from trashed. There are one or two minor surface marks on each side, but both sides play though with no trouble whatsoever. They sound great! Apart from the push-out centre being absent, the labels are both problem-free too. Call it VG+ all round.

My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. My feedback from buyers indicates I normally undergrade in listings. Even so, if you have any problems, I'll give you your money back (less shipping costs), no questions asked. Buy with confidence! Any questions? Need any more photos or an audio sample? I'm only an email away.

Payment: UK- cheques (preferred) or Paypal. Rest Of World- Paypal. Email for other accepted methods of payment. Shipping: £2 (UK), £3 (Europe) £4 (rest of world-airmail). Check my other Beatles auctions; combine orders & save on shipping costs!
