                                 BEATLES "LAST NIGHT OF THE CAVERN"

ORIGINAL AND RARE "LAST NIGHT OF THE OLD CAVERN" TICKET FROM LIVERPOOL.

The Beatles made their first lunchtime appearance at the Cavern Club, Liverpool on Tuesday 21 February 1961. They had returned to Liverpool from Hamburg, Germany, where they had been playing at the Indra and the Kaiserkeller. Their stage show had been through a lot of changes and some in the audience thought they were watching a German band. From 1961 to 1963. The Beatles made 292 appearances at the club, with their last occurring on 3 August 1963, a month after the band recorded "She Loves You" and just six months before the Beatles' first trip to the U.S.A. At the time, Brian Epstein promised the club's owners that the Beatles would return someday, but it was a promise that was never fulfilled. By this time, "Beatlemania", which had already enthralled the youth of Liverpool was sprouting across England, and the small club could no longer satisfy audience demand for the group. During 1962, The Hollies took The Beatles' slot at the Cavern Club where future star Cilla Black was the cloakroom girl. The Beatles had graduated from the club and had been signed to EMI's Parlophone label. The amount of musical activity in Liverpool and Manchester at this time caused record producers who had previously never ventured very far from London to start looking to the north.

In the decade that followed, a wide variety of popular acts appeared at the Cavern club including The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Elton John,The Who and John Lee Hooker.

 The Cavern club closed in 1973,with Jan Akkerman and Dutch group Focus the last to play The Cavern, a few days before the club was shut down in May 1973.

On Sunday May 27th 1973 a special last night was held at the Cavern to mark the clubs closure. Billed as the "END OF AN ERA" the evening included special guests and wa shosted by some of the norths best radio DJ's including Liverpool's own Billy Butler.

The evening which was aimed at being "ONCE LAST ATTEMPT TO BRING THIS FAMOUS ROOF DOWN" marked the end of a very significant era in Liverpool.

Those of us who grew up in Liverpool and spent most of our spare time hanging around the Coffee bars, Nems Record store and the Cavern Club both in the evenings and at lunchtime can now consider ourselves very very privileged to have been part of not only possibly the most famous club in world but to have witnessed the most famous pop group of all time perform there.....for those of us who where young teenagers in the early 60's, the closure of the Cavern Club certainly did mark the "END OF AN ERA".

Offered for sale is an original and genuine "LAST NIGHT OF THE OLD CAVERN" ticket from Sunday, may 27th 1973.

The ticket is in superb condition throughout.

Numbered 537 and date stamped "27th May 1973" the front of the ticket features the billing of the groups performing and the D.J's who played host that night. The front of the ticket shows a printed background made up of just some of the bands and stars who performed there including... The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Rory Storm & The Hurricanes, Billy J Kramer plus many many more.

One corner of the ticket has been clipped, this was done on admission to the club and to prevent the ticket been passed to another person to gain addmission.

The ticket is completely intact, free from writing and very very clean.

Overall a superb piece of Beatles memorabillia, celebrating the closure of the most famous club in the world which wa sand still is renowned as been the home of the most famous pop group in the world.
