BEATLES INTRODUCING THE BEATLES VJ LP 1062 VERSION 1 MONO OVAL w/ LOVE ME DO

This version is known as the Column Back Cover.  It is an initial pressing of the Version 1 variation in MONO issued on January 10, 1964 featuring "P.S. I LOVE YOU" and "LOVE ME DO" rather than titles "PLEASE, PLEASE ME" and "ASK ME WHY" which are found on later Version 2 copies.  Far fewer Version 1s were pressed than Version 2 records so you can easily see why any Version 1 is quite a find in any condition, quite valuable, and always a highly sought after collector's item.

Condition:

The FRONT COVER has very little wear for this particular LP.  A name is lightly written on the front, there is a bend in the top right corner and a bump on the bottom left corner.  There is also a short seam split (about 1 inch) on the top seam near the opening.  The spine is completely intact.  On the BACK COVER two names are written and there appears to be a small red ink stamp.  I grade the cover VG+ (Please see the photos).  (On the back, it passes the "HONEY" test for authenticity which looks at the letters "H" and "E" for ink in the song title "A TASTE OF HONEY".  FAKES have ink missing in the top left corners of each letter.  This one does not have missing ink.)

The VINYL has scuffs and other marks --mostly hairlines and light-- so I grade it to be VG/VG+.  The record plays very well with some background noise in some places.

The Type Style of the song title lettering is Upper Case and is Left Justified.  The trail-off vinyl (runout) has an "MR" in a circle indicating the plant where it was pressed (Monarch Record Mfg. Co., Calif.) and is an indicator of authenticity.

Below is from the Discogs site explaining how to distinguish genuine releases from counterfeits and demonstrates that this copy is genuine:

Deadsure Method:
? If title and artist are separated on the label by the spindle hole, it's a counterfeit.
? If it is stereo and has ''Love Me Do'' on the back cover, it's most likely a counterfeit. (See additional "HONEY" test below.)
? If ''stereo'' appears only on the cover and not on the label, it's a counterfeit.
? If the record claims to be in stereo, but plays mono, it's a counterfeit.
? If the label is all black/silver and has a large brackets logo, it's a counterfeit.

? The runout etching on almost all genuine copies should contain at least one of the following:
''Audio Matrix''
''MR'' in a circle
''ARP'' in italics

Easy Method By Cover:
? If George casts no shadow, it's a counterfeit.
? If the background contains no gradient and the colors seem off, it's a counterfeit.
? If the cover has a brown border, it's a counterfeit.
? If the front cover does not wrap around completely underneath the back cover slick, it's a counterfeit.
? If the back cover print is blurry in whatever way, it's a counterfeit.
? If printer marks (colored dots) are visible on the top of the back cover, it's a counterfeit.
? If the ''H'' and/or "E" of ''Honey'' in "A TASTE OF HONEY" on the back cover shows a printing deficit, it's a counterfeit.

Easy Method By Label:
? If title and artist are separated on the label by the spindle hole, it's a counterfeit.
? If the label has a flat textured rainbow/colorband design, it's a counterfeit.
? If the dead wax after the last track is wider than an inch, it's a counterfeit
? If the label is all black and on glossy paper, it's a counterfeit.
? Any significant loss of color in the rainbow on the label (especially green) indicates a counterfeit.

Grade Scale:

(S) SEALED = VINYL assumed mint, never open.

(NM) NEAR MINT = VINYL nearly perfect, no obvious signs of wear. COVER should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes.

(VG++ or EX) VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS or EXCELLENT = VINYL almost NM but it might have a few more superficial signs of use and slight sleeve scuffing.  COVER may only have the slightest signs of normal wear.

(VG+/VG++) Between VERY GOOD PLUS and VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS = VINYL may have a bit more signs of use & scuffing than VG++. Surface noise will be more noticeable.  COVER may have slight ring wear or discoloration.  Very small seam split.

( VG+ ) VERY GOOD PLUS = VINYL may have scuff marks, very light scratches and signs of some wear and will have surface noise in spots, generally still has it's luster.  COVER will have slightly more ring wear or discoloration. Minor seam split.

( VG ) VERY GOOD = VINYL has more noticeable scuffs and scratches.  Surface noise will be noticeable (may crackle, pop or make other annoying noises), especially in the quiet areas. COVER has minor writing, tape or sticker, ring wear and more seam splits.

( G ) GOOD  = VINYL may have multiple scratches or small gouge(s), may have continuous crackles, pops, significant surface noise. COVER has more than normal wear and tear.
