A Collection of Beatles Oldies (subtitled But Goldies!) is a compilation album featuring a selection of songs by The Beatles recorded between 1963 and 1966. The album was released in the UK and Australia,, but not in the U.S!!.

The release of this album was the result of not having any new material to release by the Beatles at the end of 1966 in the same manner of the previous three years format of two albums per year. The track "Bad Boy" had never been released by the Beatles in the United Kingdom before, but had already been released in the United States on the Capitol album Beatles VI!!.

The cover of this album contributed to the "Paul is dead" hoax as the road shown on the cover seems to lead into the head of the man sitting on the cover!!.

The album only reached number 7 in the UK album chart, perhaps because most fans already owned most of the tracks on other releases. However, the album continued to sell reasonably well, remained in print for many years so subsequently reissues were released!, and was only deleted when the compact disc age approached, thus it was never released on that format. It should be noted that six of the tracks on this LP appeared for the first time in Britain in stereo (except "She Loves You", read below.) Six were previously released as singles in Britain, and only two of the six tracks, the single, "Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out" were available in stereo on the Capitol U.S. LP "Yesterday...and Today" in the U.S. at the time. The tracks are "From Me To You" (alternate stereo take),"We Can Work It Out", "I Feel Fine", "Day Tripper"(released as a double A-side with "We Can Work It Out"),"Paperback Writer", & "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Only the single "She Loves You" was electronically re-channeled for stereo, and a stereo master still, up until this time, has not seen the light of day. While it is generally believed that the two-track master of "She Loves You" was wiped after the mono mix master was completed, experts claim to this day that a stereo master is hidden somewhere amongst the master tapes!

The Vinyl.

This is the original thick heavier type of vinyl, only found on the earliest press, with deeper grooves and more robust than later press! This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable!

On initial ispection the vinyl looks awesome still retaining its original shhen from new! Visually looks like it has only had minimal play for a 41 year old original! In strong light I can see very light surface marks\scratches (no) deep needle scratches.

The Audio.

This vinyl was played prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system. The first thing to note is that the audio is cristal clear and vibrant throughout! This has (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been over played what so ever!. There is (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) jumps or skips. Please note! There was the odd light static ticks during a couple of tracks that i could hear and perhapes the light intermitant tick here and there. one track in particular 'ticket to ride' but I must emphises no loud clicks and nothing too detrimentle as to spoil the overall awesome audio experiance! I would class myself as highly critical, Please look at my completed listings that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd light static ticks\clicks here and there but not consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a 41 year old original vinyl that would have originally been played on a 41 year old system!

The labels

These are the original yello and black Parlophone labels feature ''sold in the UK....'' across them (only 1st UK press) also features ''The Gramophone Co...'' around the label rims (only early originals) These are in superbe condition very minimal spidering can be seen angled to the light. This has had minimal play only for 41 years old Unbeleivable to find! Little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfetly round!!

The Record Sleeve.

This is the original EMI advertising serpier sleeve. Rare to find complete like this (no) splits or tares just light creasing with age the record is now stored seperately from the vinyl and record! (original)

The Cover

This is the original Garrod & Lofthouse (stereo) flipback cover! In truly exeptional condition! Super Super glossy appearance! (no) splits or tares at all!!!! Amaizingly (no) real creases in this cover to talk of (just bare minimal laminate creases that you really have to look for to even notice at all) Very Very rare to find like this! The rear is exceptionally clean with no scuffing or nasty names written just the very very lightest of staining hardly worth to mention! This is a top copy must be at least Excellent plus! Unbeleivable like this!!!!
