For those who don't know, this is the famous album that was banned by Capitol records prior to release in 1966 and then covered over with the more familiar trunk cover.The butcher scene was deemed too gruesome for the general public. As a result, Capitol destroyed a great quantity of these but eventually found it more economical to cover the offending jacket with the more familiar trunk cover.

For terminology sake: 1st state: is a copy that was never covered over with a trunk cover. They are extremely rare and were practically never sold in stores and only used as promos for radio and sales managers. 2nd state: is a butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over. 3rd state: Is a 2nd state butcher cover that has had its trunk cover(hopefully professionally) removed.

Our reserves are the most reasonable on Ebay ! First state butchers have sold for as much as $40,000! You can own a real 3rd state butcher for a tiny fraction of that cost.These are quickly being snatched up by collectors as fast as they appear.

As you can see from the photo , this is a truly gorgeous example of this rare treasure.

SPECIFIC CONDITION OF THIS ITEM IS AS FOLLOWS:

The front cover, as you can see from the photos, you would be proud to display and presents better than most of what you see out there. Beautiful, full, rich colors and fine detail. Deep reds and fleshtones on this one ! Please examine the enlarged section photo of this cover for the fine and gorgeous detail of this great peel. You simply won't find a better price for a Butcher Cover of this quality.The butcher slick is awesome and, as you can see from the photos, there are none of the tell tale tragic damage you often encounter on 3rd state peeled Butcher Cover slicks. We would still put this butcher slick up against most of what you see out there and certainly anything in this reserve price range. Additionally, this is one of the better trunk slicks that we have offered in a while and it is certainly of framable quality with only minor wrinkling/foxing age, etc. While there are some condition considerations on this piece, this is a very nice butcher cover and while the overall jacket would never be considered near mint, the peel and the removed slick presents just about as well as anything costing hundreds more.

The top seam is completely intact with just about an inch of beginning separation towards the end of the seam and a small bit of rounding and paper loss on the very tip of the top right corner. The bottom seam exhibits more beginning cracking from the middle of the bottom to the end. Both issues on top and bottom have been neatly mitigated and don't look too bad at all. The spine is mostly complete with most writing legible with an inch of paper loss on the very bottom of the spine and a small bit on the top tip of the spine. Additionally, there is a crack running through the letters "YES" of Yesterday on the spine.The back of the jacket exhibits average to moderate wear/foxing with some larger light stains here and there. The rest of the jacket presents very well and the only other issue is some small bumps on the mouth opening edge which is typical on these used jackets. (Please examine photos for visual detail).We strictly advise against attempting to place and store a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket as doing this would cause possible future pressure and damage to seams and 40 year old paper. While this may not be for the ultra picky collector.We have adjusted the reserve far below the most recent Beatles Price Guide/Goldmine value of a top quality condition price of $1200.00 making this an excellent value.This auction includes an original Capitol Gold colored inner sleeve and mono record in Poor to Fair condition (Sorry,but this is what came with it and has not been play graded !).
