THIS IS A GREAT CHANCE TO PURCHASE A GENUINE BUTCHER ALBUM, AT A GREAT PRICE ! Although current book value list top quality 3rd state mono copies conservatively at somewhere between $900 and $1200, genuine Butcher album packages have frequently and recently sold in our past auctions, Beatles conventions and record shows for over $2000.00. For those who don't know, this is the famous album that was banned by Capitol records prior to release in 1966 and then covered over with the more familiar trunk cover.The butcher scene was deemed too gruesome for the general public. As a result, Capitol destroyed a great quantity of these but eventually found it more economical to cover the offending jacket with the more familiar trunk cover.

For terminology sake: 1st state: is a copy that was never covered over with a trunk cover. They are extremely rare and were practically never sold in stores and only used as promos for radio and sales managers. 2nd state: is a butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over. 3rd state: Is a 2nd state butcher cover that has had its trunk cover(hopefully professionally) removed.

Our reserves are the most reasonable on Ebay ! First state butchers have sold for as much as $40,000! You can own a real 3rd state butcher for a tiny fraction of that cost.These are quickly being snatched up by collectors as fast as they appear.

As you can see from the photo , this is a truly gorgeous example of this rare treasure.

SPECIFIC CONDITION OF THIS ITEM IS AS FOLLOWS:

The front cover, as you can see from the photos, you would be proud to display and presents better that probably 99% of what you see out there. Beautiful colors and fine detail. This is surely a 3rd state cover with a 1st state look to it ! Please examine the enlarged section photo of this cover for the fine and gorgeous detail of this great peel. You simply won't find a better price for a Butcher Cover of this quality. We are pretty tough graders and while our last gorgous example sold for over $1000, this has been deeply discounted due to a few minimal condition issues here and there mostly confined to the back of the jacket. Capitol factory glue lines and residue, is minimal as usual. The butcher slick is awesome and, as you can see from the photos, there are no big rips,tears or other sightly problems that you often encounter on 3rd state peeled Butcher Cover slicks. We would still put this butcher slick up against most of what you see out there and certainly anything in this reserve price range. 

The top and bottom seams are completely solid with two very teenie slight cracks on the bottom seam that are about 1/4 inch.The spine is complete with some typical beginning cracks and some average toning. The spine writing is fully ledgible. The back is clean with light wear with the exception being abrasions/marks made near the song titles and also near the top of the jacket. The removed trunk slick is included and shows some wrinkling and wear and tear. Although this jacket is in nice shape and a record and inner sleeve can comfortably fit inside, we strictly advise against attempting to place a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket as doing this would cause possible future pressure and damage to seams and 40 year old paper. While this may not be for the ultra picky collector.We have adjusted the reserve below the most recent Beatles Price Guide/Goldmine value of a top quality condition price of $1200.00 making this an excellent value.This auction includes an original Capitol olive colored inner sleeve (2nd state Butcher Covers were packaged with either Gold 1966 or left over Olive colored 1965 inner sleeves and mono record in at least G to VG- condition(Sorry,but this is what came with it !). Inner sleeve appears to have been repaired by previous owner at bottom. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WE ARE BRUTALLY HONEST IN GRADING AND THE REAL PERSPECTIVE OF THIS PIECE IS HOW IT APPEARS IN THE PHOTOS.
