These are the actual 12†vinyl LP’s with full size detailed retro covers. This set of ALL 13 records very rarely becomes available. It’s a fantastic collection of all the recordings that the Beatles carried out live at the BBC studios from 1962 to 1965.
The Beatles did 88 songs at the BBC, only 32 of which were Lennon-MCartney originals. Of those 88, 36 were never issued on record. These recordings were like live gigs in that the Beatles did them very quickly, sometimes two or three sessions a day. There was no overdubbing, no double tracking and many of the shows were actually performed in front of a live audience!
So OK. No we’ve established what makes the Beatles’ BBC recording special. There’s more. In many programs The Beatles also spoke. They cracked jokes, they read requests in silly ways, they were gently rude to their hosts and generally exercised their great humour. To listen to The Beatles on a BBC radio show is to really gain an appreciation of the band at its best. Many fans consider these albums more exciting than even the regular Beatles albums. One things for sure, these Beeb albums certainly guarantee a surprise with every volume.
What makes these recordings so special was that the band didn’t just play their latest regular releases. They played a lot of unreleased stuff, songs the band never officially released on disk.
