This auction is for a very rare 1969 MONO press of the Beatles LP 'Rubber Soul'!
This is the 1969 press that features the old yellow / black label design but omits the 'Sold in the UK' statement! These are incredibly rare and hardly ever turn up for sale!
In mid 1969 the tax laws that required UK domestic presses to feature the 'Sold in the UK...' statement since 1964 were changed, and so this text on the label was removed. This happened literally just a couple of months before Parlophone adopted the EMI 'one box' silver / black label design that the other EMI labels were beginning to use. By the time this was happening the fans were buying albums like Abbey Road and Let It Be and the earlier albums were barely selling at all.
Not only that, but this is the even more rare MONO pressing! By 1969 mono was a completely dead, obsolete format and everybody was buying stereo. Parlophone only produced a tiny, tiny amount of mono copies with this label variation before the format was pulled.
So we have a label variation that was only available for a couple of months in a format that nobody wanted at a time when nobody was really buying the album. It's because of this that, today, this variation is incredibly hard to find! Not only that, but this is copy is in a truly wonderful condition! Check out the photos below!!

The cover is looking truly exceptional for its age! The front cover has a lovely, rich colour to it and the laminate has just the very lightest of dirt build up, still retaining most of its original shine! Just a very light hint of disc impression and one or two tiny creases around the edges and a touch of wear down the mouth edge. The top and bottom seams are both holding perfectly with no splits or wear or anything! The spine is fully intact with no wear or creases and fully legible. The back is looking really good with a beautifully clear back (check out the photo above!) and just a couple of little creases in the overflap lmainate. The name 'M Plowman' has been written in pen at the top left but, apart from that, there's nothing to really report. The back - as well as the cover as a whole - is looking exceptionall good! The original inner sleeve is provided. It's looking really nice with just some light creases around the edges and a very light yellowing. No splits or tears or anything. Looking really nice! Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : EX
The playing surface has a wonderfully clean, sharp shine to it and just a few little light scuffs in places. Grading down slightly from an EX+ because there is one very small, slightly heavier mark on side 2, about 5mm long, that runs from the end of track 1 to the beginning of track 2 that I can just about feel with my finger.

The labels are clean with bright text. Both lavbels have just a little, light, faint spindlewear and just a touch of white around the centrehole. Great labels!
