Description
BEATLES 1967 mono SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND LP with rare Red and white PSYCH inner with E.M.I. hand stamped on it.
On offer is a lovely EX/EX-condition THE BEATLES LP entitled SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND released in the UK in MONO in 1967 on the yellow/ black PARLOPHONE label PARLOPHONE PMC 7027.
This is a lovely EX/EX- condition MONO first pressing identified by the ‘THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD.’ & ‘SOLD IN U.K.’…label text and K.T. tax code on the label. An intriguing and unusual aspect of this LP is that it has the original red and white psych inner BUT with 'E.M.I'. hand-stamped on it - and I have never seen another one with this on.
· The Peter Blake designed Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. flip-back gatefold sleeve is in lovely EX condition and it comes complete with its original cut-out cardboard insert. It has been kept in a plastic sleeve for the 40 years I have owned it. It is a beautifully clean gatefold sleeve with vibrant colours and no ring wear on the lyrics at the back (which sometimes occurs in the Pepper album sleeves).
· It is one of the sought after WIDE SPINE Pepper’s sleeves with the upside down spine print. The cardboard cut-out is fully intact and is in lovely EX condition.
· As mentioned it also has its original red and white / psych inner sleeve which has E.M.I.stamped on it (in the top left hand corner – see my photos). I have never seen another of these red and white inners with an E.M.I. hand stamp on it. It is fully intact – no splits or writing – and in fact the disc has been kept housed in a separate white inner by me ever since I got it 40 years ago – in order to retain this red and white psych inner sleeve in nice condition.
· The disc is in very clean condition with a nice sheen to the vinyl. It is visually in EX- condition with some minor scuff marks and one small surface scratch mark on the vinyl – on Side 2 - which does not affect play at all.
· I have test played the LP for this auction and both sides of the disc play beautifully with a full dynamic range on my hi-fi.
· Matrix numbers: Side 1: XEX 637-1. Side 2: XEX 638-1.
· The label of the disc is in lovely condition on both sides. There is no noticeable spindle wear on either side of the label. The label has ‘THE GRAMOPHONE CO.LTD.’ & ‘SOLD IN U.K.’… text. The KT tax code is present on the label on Side 1.
Overall this a lovely EX/EX- example of a MONO first press SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND – which has the bonus of being one of the sought after WIDE SPINE examples. And intriguingly it has a red and white inner with an E.M.I. stamp on it which I assume was put on it in the factory at Hayes all those years ago! And I have never seen another one with this variant / feature.
Tracks are: Side 1: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With A Little Help From My Friends/Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds/Getting Better/Fixing A Hole/She's Leaving Home/Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! – Side 2: Within You Without You/When I'm Sixty Four/Lovely Rita/Good Morning Good Morning/Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (reprise)/A Day In The Life.
