This auction is for a very rare, original pressing of the Beatles single 'Ain't She Sweet / If You Love Me, Baby' on the Polydor label. This is the original 1964 press with the orange labels and scroll Polydor logo!
Before the Beatles made it big, they were stationed in Hamburg, Germany - a full history of this early time in their career can be found here. Well worth a read! It was during this time that they were recruited by Tony Sheridan, a fellow Brit working in the Hamburg nightclubs, to play as his backing group during a recording session at Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Hamburg. Pete Best featured on drums with Bernard Purdie for drum overdubs, and the session was produced by Bert Kaempfert. This was the Beatles' first time in a recording studio and a number of tracks were recorded, one of which was My Bonnie (the song that was requested by a fan to Brian Epstein at NEMs, leading him to check out the group at the Cavern, and the rest is history!)
When the Beatles became mega famous Polydor, the label that owned the publishing rights to the Hamburg sessions, tried to cash in on their popularity by issuing a number of songs that featured the Beatles both as singles and as an EP (the mega rare EP I currently have listed on eBay!). The song credits were misleading and were credited to the Beatles, even though Tony Sheridan was the main singer on the B side, "If You Love Me, Baby". However, the single sold extremely poorly in the UK charts and managed to scrape up to position 29 before dropping completely within just 6 weeks.
Today, these original orange label presses are very hard to find, and the copies that do surface are usually in a pretty trashed state. This copy, however, is looking remarkably respectible for it's 50 year life!

An original orange Polydor company sleeve is included. I have a feeling that it's an original German Polydor company sleeve that's been married with a UK issue of this disc as the sleeve was printed in Germany. It's holding okay with no splits but does have some light creasing and wear as you can see in the photos above. There's a small tear at the top and bottom of the label cutout opening on both sides as you can see. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : EX

The playing surface has a really nice, crisp shine to it and just some light, faint scuffing and nothing heavier. Very, very nice disc!.

The labels are looking really good. These labels were very prone to wear but these are looking really good! The side 1 label has some slight rubbing but the side 2 label is looking exceptional with a beautiful orange colour and just some light spindlewear! Both labels just have a touch of whitening around the centrehole.
