After 20 years of collecting, the time has come for me to sell my Beatles collection and let other collectors appreciate some of the records and memorabilia I've accumilated over the years. Please check out my other listings and remember to save me as a favourite seller, as every week I'll be listing more and more increasingly rare, collectible and desirable Beatles records!
Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This auction is for a mono copy of the Beatles debut US LP ‘Meet the Beatles’ on the Capitol label. This is the extremely rare and highly collectible Variation 1 press that omits the BMI and ASCAP publisher credits on the labels!
Back in 1964 as Capitol were preparing the LP Meet the Beatles they initially did not know the publisher credits for any of the songs. Rather than waste time holding back production to find this information out they hastily prepared labels that did not have this information on and sent them off for the initial production run. After this tiny initial run the labels were amended to show the BMI and ASCAP publisher credits and production continued as normal. These ‘variation 1’ presses are the very earliest copies to come off of the production line back in 1964 and were the first to be put out on the shelves on release day. This particular copy has the date of Jan 1964 written on the back, supporting this. These initial run copies were subjected to the very height of Beatlemania and the vast majority of copies were completely and utterly trashed by fans by playing them over and over again and being careless and knocking into record players when dancing and the like, before being unceremoniously thrown away when it could no longer be played.
It’s thought that today only a very small handful of copies of this tiny run are known to have survived (fab4collectibles.com estimate at around 20-25 copies) and most of these are most likely in a pretty poor condition. Although not mint, this copy being offered here is still in a very respectable, collectible condition!

The cover is showing some light, general wear and tear but overall is holding up okay. The front cover has a nice, blue tint to it and has some light rubbing and light ringwear as you can see in the photo above. The band along the top has yellowed slightly along with the outer edges, but nothing serious. The edges have a little wear and the corners are rounded a little. Top seam is showing a little wear but overall is holding tight with no splits or tears. The bottom seam is looking a little more fragile but, again, is holding. The spine has worn and, in the middle, there's a split that's about 2 to 2 1/2" long. The back cover has yellowed a little with a little, light wear but overall is looking pretty clean. There's a little rubbing at the top and a couple of tiny, light spots of stains down the spine edge. At the top it has the writing "Susan Knowle(?) 1964-Jan" very strongly suggesting a first day purchase! The cover features no George Martin credit and has the number 3 at the bottom right, indicating a Scranton, Pennsylvania pressing which perfectly fits the variation one disc inside! Inner Sleeve: VG+

The original blue inner sleeve is included. The inner is looking really nice with a lovely, blue colour and is looking really flat with no creasing in the corners. The opening at the top has minimal creasing and a couple of tiny little tears but nothing at all serious. Grading is low because the bottom seam has a small split in the middle. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG

The playing surface has a really nice, clean shine to it. There's a fair amount of light, faint scuffing along with a couple of slightly heavier looking scuffs and light surface marks. Notthing at all serious, though. Nice, respectible disc!

The labels are clean with bright, clear silver text. Both labels have some spindlewear - a little moreso on side 2 - and a very light amount of rubbing as you can see in the photos above. Overall, though, the labels are looking pretty good!
