THE BEAT MERCHANTS: Pretty Face/Messin' With The Man (1964, UK Columbia DB 7367)
This is a HUGE and wonderful sound and as scarce as they get. A fabulous mod beat floor filler straight out of '64 from the short lived but aptly named Beat Merchants in as good a condition as you hope to find. True Mint-.
Those who collect the period will know this 45 is an true rarity and this copy is in incredible condition, proper mint minus. Of the few copies of this that made it out into the world over half a century ago - how many could have survived so flawlessly?
The vinyl is lush, jet black and shiny, free from any scruff scratches or even hairlines. The labels are proud, unfaded, and without writing rips or tears. A tiny circle of sticker residue can be detected by angling the record in light but otherwise I cannot find fault. This even comes in its original undamaged UK Columbia company birth bag with the catalogue number written top right in the manner of record shops of the era.
This is such a great record hammered out in a fever by musicians feeling every meaty beaty big and bouncy note - as did the mod crowd who filled the floors at its playing. A truly wonderful, feverish historic artefact, in MAGNIFICENT CONDITION, from the first and most glorious wave of UK beat. Good luck on your bidding cats and kittens.
