The follow-up to such a classic as PET SOUNDS- is the legendary SMILEY SMILE. Even attempting to follow up the brilliance of PET SOUNDS would be a tough mission for anyone, let alone the Beach Boys!. Add into the equation the astounding array of mind-bending drugs which were around at the time and the descent into weirdness which affected the Beach Boys resident genius Brian Wilson and we have all the ingredients of an A#1disaster. Well, make no mistake about it, there is little doubt that the Beach Boys lost their former Surfing audience and exchanged them for a new generation of stoners.

Containing the magnificent "Good Vibrations" (No.1 UK, No.1 US '66) and the audacious "Heroes and Villains" (No.9 UK, No.12 US '67), SMILEY SMILE is definitely an album of some very weird and wonderful times.

WILD HONEY -  The third album in the trilogy of brilliant Beach Boys albums which started with PET SOUNDS (SVLP149), went on to SMILEY SMILE (SVLP219) and now finishes with the excellent WILD HONEY (No.7 UK, No.24 US 68).

 This album once again shows off Brian Wilsons extraordinary talent for song writing and production via both the severely under-rated >Wild Honey> (No.29 UK, No.31 US 67) and the brilliant > Darling > (No.19 US 67, No.11 UK 68). Aside from all the other gems on this album, it also features the original version of > Here Come The Night > which they later re-recorded and released for their venture into the world of disco music. Even though WILD HONEY has often been written off as a back to basics album and was recorded in Brian Wilsons living room, it is still an excellent yardstick of the band?s history in one of their most turbulent periods.

Plus, its still the Beach Boys AND on 180 gram vinyl which makes it a must-have purchase anyway!!

SMILEY SMILE contains 5 songs that were to have been included on SMILE: "Good Vibrations," "Heroes & Villains," "Vegetables," "Wonderful" and "Wind Chimes." The versions recorded for SMILEY SMILE are less experimental.Different versions of "Cabinessence" and "Our Prayer," two more songs from SMILE, were used on the album 20-20, released in 1969. WILD HONEY, which is in many ways the Beach Boys' soul album, was a deliberate retrenchment, and its stripped-down production anticipated both Dylan's JOHN WESLEY HARDING and the Beatles' WHITE ALBUM. Along with the R&B-influenced title track and "Darlin'" (not to mention a great Carl Wilson-sung cover of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her"), highlights include the great garage rocker "How She Boogalooed It" and the wonderfully breezy and mostly acoustic "I'd Love Just Once To See You" (as in "in the nude"). Pure joy from start to finish.
